How to increase the native volume in TRS2010

Hi everyone.

I am a complete newbie in the Trainz community and would much appreciate if someone could shed some light with the following two questions:

1) How can I increase the (SFX) sound volume from within the program?. It is a little too soft for my liking and I have not been able to find an option in the program itself.

2) I am considering buying one of the addons: "Murchison 2" or "Classic Cabon City" which were created for TRS2009, but I understand that TRS2010 has backward compatibility with TRS2009 and thus, you have guessed, my question is if I can run either of these two addons on TRS2010 and do they run well?.

Regards,

Christian.

Christian,

Your Add-ons will work fine in TS2010.

The overall sound-level within the game, I think unfortunately is controlled on a per-asset basis. In otherwords each item has its own sound level, and given the huge number of sound-producing items, this would be a really daunting task updating the sounds for each object. So I think the only way to control the overall volume is to adjust your speakers or sound-level in Windows.

Now personally I have actually lowered the volume on my system using the Windows sound level adjuster (mixer?) because I found the sound to be too loud. Then yet again, I can hear ants walk at night so perhaps my hearing is more sensitive.

I'm not sure you can. You can adjust the relative volume using the mixer control in windows, if you're using Vista or 7, but other than that, I think turning up your PC's volume - or getting better speakers - is the only option.

Oh and regarding this:

1) How can I increase the (SFX) sound volume from within the program?. It is a little too soft for my liking and I have not been able to find an option in the program itself.

I recommend trying one of Sporbust's SD70s, they can't possibly be described as 'soft', and assuming you have decent speakers (I use Logitech X-540 5.1 set) then your neighbours will be banging on the wall and asking you to turn down the diesel engine you're running in your living room in no time...

Perhaps the addition of a sound card would also help. It would give all the sounds a louder crisper sound. As well as the ability to setup surround sound so it would make it sound and feel like your really standing next to the locomotive/train.

Hi Christian,
And welcome to the trainz forum,

For your first question, I don't think there is a volume control as such, but I have a question for you...... How have you got your sound system set up?.... Because if you have got it set up for a multi sound system and are only using two speakers or a set of head phones then you are missing out a lot of the sound from the other speakers.

As for your second question, I can't say as I've only got the S&C add-on but all three have updates on the forum somewhere for TS2010 but they will work even without them, they just clear up some miner bugs.

Hi everyone.

Thank you so much for all the replies.

I have a 5.1 sound card and increasing the volume in the speakers does indeed help and solves the problem but I was just curious if the volume could be changed from within the program.

Do you recommend buying one of the add-ons a d if so, which one?.

Regards,

Christian.
