How to "complete" the Downtown sessions?

I have, I think, completed all of the operations for the Downtown Traction Company sessions Coaling and Farmall but I get no message telling me I have completed them and they don't show up in Achievements. Apparently I'm missing some key step and I can't figure out what it might be.

Is there some magic that can tell me what I am missing? I'd appreciate any advice.

Bill,

That's the way Philskene does his sessions. Upon completion of all tasks, you are generally required to return the locomotive to the nearest Depot, then 'sign off', by hitting the Esc key to exit the session.

It would be nice to have some indication that everything is done successfully, but Phil apparently doesn't work that way.

" ... the internal satisfaction ... "

Hi Bill --

Matt is correct.

Those who we choose to work on my short lines are dedicated roadroad men who don't need a pat on the back when their shift is completed. We expect them to have the internal satisfaction of knowing that they have done their job well.

We recommend that quiche-eating Prius-driving latte-sipping new-age metrosexulas who do need a "well done" ship out to the Razorback Railroad. We only employ meat-eating pickup-driving beer-swilling real men in our outfit.

Said in jest, of course. But that's the way it is, mainly because most of the sessions are what I'd call "free style" - the tasks can be completed in any way and in any order. This makes it well neigh impossible for me to write a script that will monitor all the combinations and permutations of the activities that take place and trigger the "well done" message.

It ain't over til the fat lady sings!

What you need to do is have an "Attaboy!" message pop up at the beginning, then everyone who needs an attaboy will think it's over and quit. :hehe:

YAR, then, hand me a hunk o that haunch then! :cool:

What got me to asking was that TSMac has an Achievement for "finishing" Downtown Coaling and I was wondering how to accomplish that. 'Parently it 'taint possible outside of my own satisfaction. Well, I'm satisfied I completed it so we'll just move on to the next.

Downtown is a great area, I'm really enjoying it. Any suggestions on how to extend the playtime after I go through the scenarios? [Oops, are we supposed to say "playtime"???]

Try Downtown TS12?

Hi greybeard --

"Any suggestions on how to extend the playtime after I go through the scenarios?"

Yes.

Now correct me if I'm wrong 'cause it was quite some time ago, but that Farmall session is for DowntownTractionCo 1a? And I see that you are running it on the Mac version of Trainz?

There is a version 2a of Downtown, but the very latest is for TS12, see here:

http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=73929&highlight=downtown

I'm not sure if this will run on your Mac or not. If it does I've used a slightly different approach for the sessions - I have configured all the industries and spotted appropriate freight cars to transport the commodities produced and consumed by those industries. The result is this work sheet:

DowntownTractionCoTS12_MP_Session_1_SuggestedFreightCars.jpg

You can now take the role of Dispatcher and decide the schedule for Chuck and Joe on their shift. There are so many permutations that it should keep you busy for a while.

The session has also been configured for multiplayer, so it's possible that other players may drop in if you begin a session. Alternatively you might be able to join an existing session, that's assuming we can get ourselves a bit better organised, see here:

Thanks, guys. I really like the layout. I'm going to have to learn a lot about controlling AI trains but I can't think of a better place to try that out. And I think multiplayer is a bit farther out.

I am running TSMac which, as I understand it, is the TS12 engine with TS10 content. I'll have to see if I can get the more "modern" Downtown Traction loaded on the Mac. Should be interesting to try if nothing else.

Downtown Traction Co 2a on TSMAC

Thanks, Phil. Whilst awaiting hurricane Irene I tried downloading the new route and scenario and installing them on TSMac. Resolving the missing depenancies on the Mac is a little tedious but very possible. I ended up with three missing (and not available in the DLS) for the route and one for the scenario. Unfortunately the one missing in the scenario prevents it from loading in multiplayer. I haven't tried setting it to single player yet but I expect that should be possible. If I can do that then I suspect I can play a little with it.

The three missing from the route are 287284:1066, 438552:2047, 293699:1 and the one from the session is 37581:2150. Perhaps they are all builtins for TS12?

Thanks again for your hard work!

The problem is solvable

Bill --

Shoot me a Private Message with your e-mail address and we'll see if we can doing something about those four missing assets.

Phil -
It would probably be a great deal of work to add a score factor to a session variable each time a subtask has been completed, but this might be a way to satisfy those players craving rewards. The score could be displayed either in an HTML at the end or on the custom HUD. Do you think this is a good idea?

A forum post with the best score could be created where players could boast their record achievements.

By the way, I looked up the word "metrosexulas" in my dictionary (1982) and the word doesn't appear. What does it mean? :hehe:

Cheers - Trevor

Spelling it wrong.

Missing assets, still trying to figure out what's going screwy - DowntownTractionCo TS12 MultiPlayer Session 1,<kuid2:69871:2093:1> I'm pretty sure is the one I played with Phil and another guy last week, but tried to launch it yesterday and it refused - said it was missing something. Looking in content mangler 3.6 I see there are now two versions of the route;

DowntownTractionCo TS12,<kuid2:69871:2086:2>
DowntownTractionCo TS12,<kuid2:69871:2086:1>

Maybe that's what's different, downloading the update now to check it out.

Okay, quick look;

Cement Silos Monolith,<kuid:287284:1066>

Built in to TS12, not available in TS2010 - correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Mac version of the game the same as TS2010? Does the Mac run TS12 multiplayer at all?

Yeah, eventually figured that out, set up as host while I was out today;

http://www.trainsim.com/vbts/showthread.php?303265-Well-don-t-everyone-push-and-shove!

After four hours I came home and saw there were two entries in the chat window, "Don'tRememberName has joined the channel" and "Don'tRememberName has left the channel", apparently only one guy tried it.

http://www.trainsim.com/vbts/showthread.php?303269-Poll-Tried-have-not-tried-multiplayer

Still trying to kickstart the whole multiplayer thing, in addition to natural shyness the manual suggests;

We recommend that you join a number of existing multiplayer games and gain some experience with the multiplayer environment before you consider hosting your own multiplayer game.

Uh, yo, if everyone follows that recommendation who's gonna be hosting all these existing games for people to join to get experience? :hehe: It's new and untried, everyone is a n00b, we're all just gonna have to suck it up and learn together. Main thing is a lot questions yet to be asked let alone answered, does Trainz Mac or the Ipad thingy have multiplayer that's compatible with TS12 for the PC?

Thanks for that. From what I understand, TSMac is the TS12 engine with TS2010 content. It is supposed to be able to do multiplayer but that does seem crippled if it is missing TS12 content, doesn't it? :o

TSMac does have multiplayer but I haven't found any games online yet. I think the biggest problem is that TSMac has TS2010 content built-in. So any mp scenario that depends on TS12 built-in content won't work.

But I do think you're right. We need to play with it a bit and let Auran know what isn't right.
