How to change the font for ARN

Hi all.

This might sound like a stupid question, but how does one change the font for a patch job? I am trying to patch the CR SD80MAC to NS numbers and I'm not sure how....

Thanks!

I don't know anything about Gimp. I use Photoshop. If they're similar, you have to open the Alpha Channel, drag the "old" font off the screen, then type in your new font, making sure it is the same size (basically) as the "old" font. Then save as the SAME FILE NAME.

To change the COLOR of the font, you must change the background color in the main RGP channel.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Dave

AS AN ADDED NOTE: The font in the Alpha Channel must be pure WHITE!! or it won't work. Unless you're looking for a REALLY grungy font, then you can experiment.

If you're LOOKING for a certain font, try this site:

http://www.fontyukle.net/en/list-A,1

If you're looking for a certain typestyle, type the word or words in the "Default Font Preview" and you can see the actual letters used in that particular font.

Glad to help,

Dave

Depends on which part of the arn you want to see. If you want to see the number and no background for the number your alpha should be a black background and white numbers. If you want to se the background and not the number, (like on a back lite number board) then the alpha should have a white background and black number. And of coures whatever color you want the number should be on the rgb layer of the image.

I disagree. If you want a WHITE number on a BLACK number board, then your number (alpha channel) is WHITE and your RGB Channel color is WHITE.

If you want a BLACK number on a WHITE number board, then your number (alpha channel) is WHITE (like above^) and your RGB Channel color is BLACK.

Always use a WHITE Alpha number, then color the RGB channel to the color you want, whether it be white, black, blue, gold, etc. etc.

I do it this way to avoid any confusion.

yea but some numbers are lit from behind like he was saying, so he is correct. in this case, the numberboard is the white glow, and the number over it is masked one way or the other.

Maybe he is correct, but I do it this way and it works fine, so we're both correct:

Yes but doing it your way will prevent the numbers from glowing at night on the engine in question.

I tried it as you two JR guys said, and I couldn't get it to work.

On the top numberboard ARN, same loco pictured above, I painted the number "7" black on white (Alpha) and with a black RGB channel. What i got was a white number "7" in a black box.

Oh well,

I'm tired and going to bed.

Dave

i suppose you would have to have them mapped just so for it to work. here is an example

the numberboard is set so that it is a simple white background with a glow and appropriate texture. the numbers themselves are above this and in this case are colored black so that when you cut them out with the alpha they show the glowing white behind them. these two are essentially the same arn numbers with the fonts changed and alpha reversed.
