How Many Of You Still Have Old Versions of Trainz?

Ah, yes!..............I wax nostalgic, every time I look at my 'header'!
Hundreds,.........no, THOUSANDS, of hours;........lost in the bliss of cloudy comprehension, challenging 'Surveyor', terrain, track, and signaling; not to speak of Auran/N3V's spooky path to 'content creation'. Indeed, each new iteration of Trainz has brought with it not only apprehensive excitement and wonder, but a whole new series of 'to do's'!
And I suppose that few of you ever think of the social benefits of the game..................... I'm still married!

I have every one since UTC although some aren't listed above since I used different aliases with a couple of them. I only have TS2009 installed on my PC and use it regularly. I have TS 2010EE, but I hate it mainly because of the "layering". I'm an old model railroader who just wants to "plug it in" and start playing. Too old to become a computer programmer.

Although I don't have them installed anymore, I still own my CD's for both Trainz 2004 and 2006 still. It amazes me that Trainz 2004 required 4 CD's to install and for Trainz 2006 it required a total of 6 CD's to install, but then after the installation was complete you then only need just 1 of them to run the game leaving the other CD's useless unless you had to re-install the game.

You don't need any disc to play, so that leaves all of them useless. I do like that, though.

I'm only using TS12 right now. When TANE can install 3rd party content and work, I'll make the switch. Until then, it's just a disk weight.

I still have all versions of Trainz as displayed in my top profile but only from TRS 04 upwards on various of my 4 PCs and various h/drives or partitions on these and still look into some of these versions every now and then for nostalgic reasons and seeing how Trainz has progressed since then.

You mean it can't install 3rd party at all or some of it has errors and or warnings?

I've installed many objects from other creators. Since I install from the original files, many already had errors in TS12 and earlier so nothing new that T:ANE also flags them. Most of my own install without errors since I've been updating my own files as needed.

I had the same issue... Mine was due to leftovers from the beta /CE editions on my hard drive. I did some clean up of this leftover garbage using CC-Cleaner and then deleting the App Data/N3V folder, recreating my data folder on my then second drive, and reinstalling T:ANE again.

The content installs, some has errors, some doesn't, and I can fix errors. But when launching trains, I get a pink and green screen. Tony provided me with this link: http://faq.trainzportal.com/knowledge-base/pink-and-green-screen-what-is-wrong/ and the fix "works", in that it resets the game. It changes my local folder from my larger SSD D: drive to the much smaller C: drive. I've gone back into the settings and redirected it to the D: drive. When the local folder to install content is on C:, the game works....but I don't have room to install much. When it's on D:, it only works while "new", aka no content installed. After installing content, the pink and green screen shows up. I've tried reinstalling a couple times now, same results each time. I can go in and change the location of my local folder from C: to D: and back, and watch my game work or not work. So right now, it looks like my only option is to play the game without any extra content. I only have room to install stuff onto the D: drive, and TANE won't accept installation of content there. Thus I'm forced to keep using TS12.

I first purchased TS2009/TS2010. I then invested in T:ANE CE. On to T:ANE.

I then purchased TS12 when N3V offered it at a good price. I now have T:ANE and TS12 installed, but no longer TS2009/TS2010.

It is good to have TS12 around to help migrate assets over to T:ANE, if for no other reason. For the same reason, I may eventually reinstall the others.

I just have TS Mac I and T:ANE CE 1. You guessed it I play macintosh and I have a really slow network(250 Kbps, tops).

Never had that so no ideas about it

Strange, mine was always installed on my E: drive. Never had anything in the C:\users\...\appdata\. Not even a redirect file. In the Launcher, Settings, the location is correctly shown as E:\Game\N3V Games\TANE which is where the data is located. And T:ANE works fine with the data there.

Martin, I model the EBT RR that's about it. A 3' ng rr built in 1876 and operated up til 1956 and from 1960 up to a couple years ago operating as a tourist rr. It hauled coal, iron ore, ganister, some lumber and a few other things including a few passengers and lots of miners to and from work. Basically 32 miles of mainline track; many more miles of branch lines and yards, industrial leads and mine spurs; 6 mikados, a gas-electric and 2 std gauge switch locos - they worked the dual gauge yard and industrial track in Mt Union, PA.

Most of the rolling stock was steel hoppers. Randall White kindly made a model of one - there's a connection to the WP&Y that I don't have to go into. There hasn't been much content made for the EBT in Trainz over the years but since almost all the cargo was transported in steel hoppers since the early 1900's things weren't to bad I could operate some coal trains.

But then came TANE, the new future of Trainz.

Take a look at THESE 2 pictures, one in TS12 and one in TANE. If I can't run EBT consists why would I want to work in TANE. N3V keeps telling me if works in TS12sp1 it should work in TANE. So I'll keep going in TS12 and forget TANE for a few years. When it's fixed maybe I can port things over.

Hey, I still use TRS04 to create terrain and track work - for some very good reasons too.

Just reinstalled Trainz 2006. I set everything to full and it is actually very good, no stutter really smooth operation and just simple to run and create. I know it is an old game but when AURAN created these early versions they did future proof them to a certain degree. Think i will keep it installed for awhile and actually play trainzs instead of repairing trainz if you know what i mean.

I agree that 09, 10, 12, and T:ANE, should be as easy to use, user friendly, plays right out of the box, has no complicated settings, and has no complicated layers.

Although TRS2006 plays on low end integrated graphics laptops, the graphics is very antiquated in TRS2006.

And when downloading an asset into TRS2006, sometimes 15 dependencies, as well as the asset, all need to have the config(s) files backdated to TRS2006 trainzbuild numerals, requiring assets.bku in Cache folder, and then assets.tdx in TRS2006 folder, to be deleted, and then letting the TAD rebuild for @ 20 min.

Tracklaying in TRS2006 is very easy, and the CM works flawlessly

I will always use TRS2006 to lay track with ... and import the finished 06 routes into 09, 10, 12, T:ANE

I have all the disk copies above, but for some reason TRS2004 didn't show up . I use TS12 and now I'm starting to use TANE more often, but TS12 will still be main game :D
TANE is the only download copy I purchased.

UTC - Trainz 2009 on Disk, 2010, 2012 and TANE as digital download. And being a stubborn old fellow, even have them all installed on the PC, I have 2 HDD's dedicated to Trainz and the games live on those til rapture - Using TANE as my primary now since I ported my main route over.

I have disks and flash drives all over the place. Hmm. In days of yesteryear I changed email address many times and so I think all the (fully legal) purchases don't show up on account of the different email addys used when purchasing. I remember the great crash of 2006 when the Auran server's forum HDD's fell over ...

and so it goes ...

2004 (which will not show on my line)
2006 (which shows on my line)
2009 (which will not show on my line)
2010 (which will not show on my line)
2012 (which will not show on my line)
T:ANE (which shows on my line)
TD 2016 (which shows on my line)

Mostly use T:ANE and at times I create in 2009, and sometimes in 2010. Don't like layers.
Gotta admit the procedural track revolution is making its presence felt somewhat strongly in T:ANE screenshots.

I still prefer my TS2010 but trying to adapt to T-ANE. I purchased the recently available discount for the Deluxe Route Pack, just to get the streetcars and some of the assets in those routes in order to build new T-ANE routes of my own. I am disappointed that the changes to assets in the DLC negated their use in TS2010 if downloaded or updated. I am also unhappy the some assets are not updated to work in T-ANE (i.e. Riverside Streetcar). My Laptop with 4MB Ram runs T-ANE, run a little slower and my desktop W10 will not load (an installed T_ANE) due to a Direct X (Direct X1) graphics card incompatibility. In W8.1 the The T-ANE worked on the Desktop. I assume programmers are still sorting out the bugs, Hopefully.!

Even though I first had 2012, since getting 2010, I switched over to that. Having EVERY Trainz game execpt new era and TC1&2 is amazing. To see how trainz has progressed slowly but surly is nice.
