How do you manage KUID numbers in two versions of the game

Session Creator
So now I have an SP1 version and a non-SP1 version of TS12 on my computer. When I create a session on the newest install, it starts my KUID numbers back at 00001. I have searched the forum and found that you use to be able to set a starting KUID. Is there anything I can do other than create in the old version and import into the new?

Perhaps the best way would be to change the automatically given KUID to one of your choice. I always do this, although I still work in 2010 so can not be sure that this is also possible in 2012. By doing this, and following the recommended KUID ranges for 2004, all my content is shown on a database within the recommended categories, eg. 37..... are all splines. Of course, whenever I create a new asset I update the database and use the next available KUID.

One warning though - do not change the UserID portion of the KUID in the process. The latest TrainzDev blog entry covers why this should not be done, as it basically causes problems for any asset subsequently uploaded to the Download Station that has the asset with the changed UserID as a dependency. If you need to change a KUID of someone else's asset for some reason (for personal use only of course) it's better to use the Clone feature.

Save all your own stuff from your old install to a CDP via CM. Import that CDP in your other install. Trainz will automatically skip the numbers already in use.

Thanks guys.

I have tried to change the number in the config.txt and it will not commit because its says it has the incorrect kuid. I guess the one stored in the game database.

Instead of committing the asset choose “Import content” from CM’s File menu after you change the kuid.

This has to be done outside Content Manager

To change the kuid, open the session for edit and then copy the whole session folder to a temporary location.

Revert the original in CM.

Edit the kuid in the config.txt file in the folder in the temporary location.

Finally drag and drop this folder into the main pane of CM. The original can be deleted.

I keep a document listing the kuids I have used to prevent any duplication.
