How do you download from Trainzone?

Hi

Does anyone know how to download freeware locos from Trainzone - what Trainz file should I save them into?

I've all ready tried saving them into Extras but this didn't work.

Thanks

VaughanD

If they are .cdp files, you do not copy them into the Trainz folder. The best method (for TRS2006 or above) is to use the Import CDP option in the File menu of Content Manager.

Great

This works although all of the locos I've just downloaded have missing dependencies - is this anything to do with the way I've downloaded them or just to do with the loco itself?

Your PC Downloads could be the ideal place for holding all your thousands of CDP's ... you open them up from there by double clicking on them.

If a link will not open by clicking on it ... select "Open Link" and it will download

Tracking down missing dependencies is a chore ... and PM's to freinds, they will gladly help you find missing and hard to find kuids.

Although I don't have 09, I know for a fact in 2010 you can install CDPs saved to another location by simply opening CMP, clicking on 'Import CDP' under File on the toolbar at the top, then searching through folders to where you saved the CDP files, and letting CMP do the rest. :D

You can even select multiple CDPs to import, allowing you to install them all at once, cutting down on a lot of time.

But as I said, I have no experience in 09, but I presume CMP in 09 would have a similar function to install CDPs saved externally.

EDIT: nevermind, I didn't notice Shaneturner had already mentioned it. *slaps self*

Its nothing to do with the way you downloaded it, it just means that the kuid & asset are not on the DLS, and were not included in the .cdp. Its not unusual. As Clam said, it would help if you posted the loco, but if you post the kuids someone may be able to help in finding it:)

Cheers

You save the downoaded CDP files into any folder you like, then in CM find that folder and allow CM to unpack the CDPs. What did you download that had so many missing items? It is possible that I could fix them.

Peter

You can, of course, just choose the "Open" button when clicking the download link to install it without having to save it to a folder of your choice and use the "Import CDPs..." option in CM.

If you use Free Download Manager, then you can both open the CDP and save it to a folder of your choice on your computer.

Kuid:75130:53001 is Ffestiniog Rly Enginesound
Kuid:75130:54001 is Linda Hornsound

Edit: you can download these at the top of the ffestiniog downloads page

With the faulty assets, its likely its a .pm mesh file, instead of a .im. If you could post some of the errors on here it would be a great help.

These are some of the errors & warnings...

Warning: Progressive meshes are no longer supported by CCP. Though these meshes may work in Trainz, it is recommended that you switch to a LOD mesh.
Error: Unable to load mesh file: 'content ng53hvby83\taliesinback_bogie_shadow\taliesinback_bogie_shadow.pm'

Error: Unable to load mesh file: 'content nb5fnsod51\frch3_shadow\frch3_shadow.pm'

Error: Unable to load mesh file: 'content sb1tg32s103\me_shadow\me_shadow.pm'

So, yes they are all .pm files. What should I do now - should I send the rest of the faulty files?

VaughanD

To fix the .pm's, you need to download Pevs PM2IM tool ( http://members.optusnet.com.au/~villaump/pevsoft.htm ). Once you have that, you need to find the file location of the loco, and open that in the pm2im software. double-click on the .pm file and click convert. Then commit the loco in CMP. On pevs site there is a tutorial for this, as i probably haven't explained it very well:hehe: ( sorry )

The other faulty ones could be texture issues or something, i really cant remember. i think theres one about the date catogory. In CCP (right-click on loco, edit, edit in content creator plus) have a look around. If there is anything red, its faulty and thats whats causing it
