How do you disable Windows 7 updates from installing just in case they affect Trainz?

Just in case a Windows update may affect Trainz, how do you disable the Windows 7 updates on a laptop and desktop? One of the reasons, especially when it installed over 20 of them - and in a hurry to get to public transport?

I've never had a problem with windows updates. I just had 193 of them install in one batch and no effect on any program including Trainz, Railworks3 and FlightSim X.
You are more likely to have problems if you stop the updates. Many of them are critical to the running and security of your computer.
If you still want to turn them off, right click on the white pennant, (i.e. flag), on the right hand side of the taskbar. Select open Action Centre, then select Security.
You can disable from here. Personally, I wouldn't.

If update installation/restarts is a problem, change the Windows Update settings to download the updates automatically but ask you when to install them. Bear in mind that your system will be vunerable until you do install the updates.

I will just leave it then, but what happens if like the other day, the battery is about to run very low, and it's still installing, as it states do not turn off, or unplug?

In most cases, it will just continue from where it left off at power down. In some other cases, you have to do a system restore from the last good restore point and then it will go and get the required updates.

Once the laptop is up to date with its updates, you should never get more than a few at a time. Use Shaneturner12's advice, and you can choose to install them only when the laptop is plugged in to the mains power.
