How do I set up an AI?

Ok I know I should already know how to do this but I m having a problem a getting my head around this. I want to setup an AI train. Get the loco to pick up trucks at A then at B and then move on to destination c. Now I know I can do this at the beginning of a session but can I do this in surveyor in advance? If so how?

Hi Antony,

This requires using triggers, trackmarks, and driver commands such as Drive to trackmark A, followed by an uncouple at the trackmark so that that train engine drives away. This could trigger a shunter to go out and couple to the wagons at the trackmark and then carry on.

You'd set this up in the Sessions editor where you edit the session and driver setup.

Hope this helps, or at least gets you in the right direction. To be honest, I use no triggers, but mostly trackmarks to keep the AI driving on the correct tracks. All my freight trains are run throughs and I do the local switching.

Hello Antony. I am pretty new to all this so my advice is not worth much but I have been setting up AI trains in Surveyor and they are working fine now. When I first tried I did not have much success. I added a driver and gave him a list of instructions but he refused to move. I only got it working when I used the 'Driver Schedule' rule. I am still puzzled as to why he didnt move when I gave him his commands in the Driver Setup section. Perhaps someone in the know couold shed some light on this.

I've downloaded several routes where I end up with a mass of unwanted locomotives and freight cars because the author added them in Surveyor.

It's much better to set up all rolling stock, including the AI, in the Session layer.

Thanks guys. Like I said, I can set things up in driver mode but what I really wanted to be able to do was set it up in surveyor. Im beginning to understand the use of triggers etc but I cannot fathom out how to prearrange the route.
