How do I make an object lean?

Good afternoon everyone.

Can someone please tell me what line needs to be inserted into the config.txt file to allow a rotatable object to be rolled?

Not everything in the world is vertical all the time. I’d like to set a couple of objects at a “jaunty” angle!

This should do the trick.

rotate 1
rotate-yz-range -180,180

Thanks for that!

I'd worked out the rotate-yz-range from other assets, but had missed off the rotate 1.

Easy when you know how - or get the right advice!

Now where's that TrainzObjectz shortcut ...

Hi Everybody.
Another way to make an object lean, is to cut all the fat off....:hehe:

Bill,

Very droll! Have you been at the cider again?

That sounds a bit too surgical to me. I prefer going to the gym to improve my config!

Hi Again Everybody.

funny you should say that Casper I was genuinely just thinking about having a glass of cider. I've been working on my route all afternoon and the eyes are starting to get a bit tired so I thought a pint might put some life back into them again.

The problem is a glass (or two) of the old Apple juice puts life back in the eyes and even more life into the brain and that's when the track laying starts to get a bit wobbly along with everything else.

You go to bed thinking "what a master creation I made this evening" only to get up next day, look at your route and think " Oh God what have I done"

I know the above is true because I've done it before:confused:

@ olpe

I believe you can put the edit anywhere.

For this asset (one of DomSarto’s gates), I’ve put my changes here, keeping the "lean" to just 20 degrees. It works just fine:

Bill,

At least you were able to find it! I’ve had similar problems after a few pints of real ale, only worse. I have been known to totally forget into which route a whole evenings work has been placed!

Hi lewisner,

The roll function (hold Shift whilst using rotate tool in Surveyor) works with quite a few objects - but only if the creator has set it up in the config.txt.

I haven't yet found a farm gate which will do this though - hence the need for a bit of DIY.

Rotate 1 is the default so doesn't need to be put in the config.txt file. The rotate-yz-range tag can be added to any object of kind:scenery.

Good evening everyone.

Thanks to everyone for the advice.

I’ve managed to get my objects to roll quite successfully, but with one exception.

One of my gates (shown below on the right) seems to roll in a different direction to the other objects whose config.txt files I have modified.

The galvanised gate on the left rolls quite happily, leaving the lower rail parallel to the ground however steeply it leans. The wooden gate moves differently, burying one end into the ground.

I suspect it must relate to the way in which it was modelled, and the “yz” part of the config.txt line may need to be something else.

Could someone please advise?

Hi,

You can only roll in one direction, and if the model is built in the other direction, it will not roll like you want it to.

I think the model needs to be built so the part you want to roll is pointing towards the X-axis in the 3D modeling program, but I can't check at the moment so I can't be 100% sure.

But yes, if it rolls not like you want it, the model mesh needs to be turned sideways 90 degree, and for that, you need the mesh creator to do the change.

Best wishes

Linda

Hi All
Using TS2009/TS2010, it's possible to create a 'rollable' version of an asset, by using the 'mesh-asset' tag.

For an example of how to do this, grab my Delorian assets from the DLS (under the username S301, userID 103475), and take a look at the setup for them. There should be three versions, 1 with the mesh (rolls in one direction), 1 without the mesh (rolls in the other - asset rotated using one of my 'mesh rotating objects thus allowing it to roll in a different direction), and 1 setup for traffic (have a feeling that there was also a version with 'lights' as well...).
