How do I keep trains from slowing down when approaching/entering a portal?

Ref: TS 2010:

Seems to me I saw this discussed some time ago, but I cannot find it now.

When one of my trains get near a portal entrance, it slows down almost to a stop as it enters. It enters the portal, but having - say a passenger train - which had been clipping along at 40-50 mph - slow to 5mph or so is so non-prototypical.

Anybody able to come up with a fix for this?

Thanks,

Wes

Well, what I do is make 2 or 3 non-painted boards at route ends as an 'out-of-world' area where I put in a set of portals and/or balloon loop. This is so that when a train exits (or enters) your area and when it reaches the 'in-the-world' area, your train will look like it enters (or exits) the route at track speed.

As a way to change the actual speed when a train goes through the 'exits/enters' phase at a portal, I do not know how it can be done.

I think that it's impossible to change the speed for the portals. I do believe the reason why the speed is so low is so that the train can recieve its rolling stock or other units correctly and not to mess up.

As I understand it, the portal is recognised as a signal, therefore the train slows to respond to it. When it passes the (non-existent) signal and enters the portal, the portal takes over.

...so placing a couple of invisible signals on the approach may help keep entry speeds up. As for portals creating, the only thing I can think of is to follow the portal with a downslope (whilst still 'behind the scenes').

I put two Signal Thingys (Kuid 93677:1400) just before the Portal entry. A train going 50 MPH will slow down to 30 after it enters the portal, but the speed is maintained right up to the Portal entrance.

Try putting a trackmark before the portal. For example, If the portal's name is North Portal, put a trackmark just before the entrance. Name it North Portl. Notice that i took off the a to distinguish the trackmark from the portal. On a schedule, you would put, Drive via Trackmark North Portl, Drive to North Portal. This will fool the A.I. and it won't give them time to slow down before their gone down the PORTAL-UNIVERSE. (No screaming intended)

Hope this helps.:)
