How do I edit a loco?

Im using Pikkabirds Class 42 Warship as an example, but there are manu British locos with this issue,
some Locos on the Dls have a tendency to use the default English Electric (thumper) sound and I think, a US Loco Horn, this annoyed me so I wanted to change the sounds.

I entered the asset by the Edit/edit in explorer/config changed kuids/ and kuid tables and I have followed the guides, then saving and commiting to the cmp and reloading trainz 06.

The loco has gone?

I have previously altered config files within Trainz 04 and have had no issues.

On opening Cmp now, I get a bundle of missing dependencies yellow jig saw type which are said to be missing?

The assets are all on my Hardrive and within the "local" folder so why can't they be used by the loco in question?

I have deleted the tdk file which i followed from an earlier thread and it has also disapeared?

Please Help

TRS2006 doesn't need the kuid-table filled out. Try deleting all the kuids listed in the kuid-table, save and then commit. That should solve your missing dependencies unless the kuid items you changed aren't actually present on your system. If you don't solve you problem, post the config.txt file here. You could make it a lot smaller by deleting the description section.

I'm quite new to CMP too, today being my first time inside. I would like to paint some locomotives and rolling stock to go with the railroad I'm currently building.

I've tried finding a template for my targeted locomotive (NSWGR 48 Class Indian Red) but I couldn't. Is there a way to create a new skin for this locomotive for my railway?

I tried this but it still doesnt work?
And all of the deps are on my local machine.

If you want more specific help, post the kuid that you are having trouble with and also what dependencies are reported as missing.

Unless your description of what you did is faulty, you skipped a crucial first step. When you go to edit an asset, whether in CMP or in explorer, before you do anything else, create a new folder on the desktop (I call mine "reserve") and move a copy the original config.txt file into the reserve folder. Not only does this make it clearer exactly what you did, but in the event you really throw a spanner in the works, you can get the asset back by restoring the config.txt file from the reserve.

Another useful tip, the first few times you do something, write down exactly what you did, in the order in which you did it. First, it will make it faster to do something the second time you do it, and second, you can evaluate the steps you took, and perhaps find a quicker way to do it.

Okay, thanks for the information, i havent backed any files up as I assumed they would be available to find again on Dls.
I have now lost PikkaBirds Class 42 and am learning the lesson.
It's a good job I know a little about file recovery!

Okay I will look for it later.

So when I have backed up the file to be edited, I delete the whole kuid table (including the kuid table }part?

Im still lost.

I think that TRS2006 only uses the kuid-table list to generate the missing dependencies list but it is not required for running in TRS2006. Not sure if this is really required but to play safe, you should leave the:

kuid-table {
{

part.

I take it from your first post you mean you deleted the assets.tdx file? not the tdk?? file

Anyway, you need to have cmp rebuild its database, it would appear to have become out of sync with the assets on you drive.

In your trainz directory you will see a assets.tdx file. rename it to something else.. the next time you open cmp it will rebuild its asset database, if you have lots of content installed than it can take a very long time to do this and cmp may appear to be locked up... mine can take over 5 mins to rebuild the 20000+ assets. Just wait for it to complete.
after this hopefully all your problems should be solved....
but if cmp just started like normal than you may have to quit it and delete assets.tdx and cache/assets.bku.. the second is a backup that cmp can use when something goes wrong, so dont delete it unless you really need to.
