How do I Download a Route, and After Dowloading, Where is it?

I am a new user, and have never dowloaded anything in TrainZ before. This morning, I have been trying to download the Robe River Iron route. I used the download helper in the content manager. For about 45 minutes, it seemed to be downloading, and began showing several "Kuid"s (I don't know what that means). After about 45 minutes, it seemed to finish, however, it still indicated 0 MB downloaded today.

I don't know if I downloaded the route or not. If I did not, then how do I do it? If I did, then how can I use it. In trying to figure out the content manager, I cannot find it anywhere.

Thank you for the help.

Hope you have a First Class Ticket, otherwise things can take a LOOOONG time. In CMP, find a that route and right-click and select Download and it'll start downloading the the top-left window. I'm guess you already figured this out but I wanted to be sure. Look at the speed figure. if you don't have an FCT, the figure should be about 3.75 kbps. If you do, it'll be about 100 times that.

The problem is that most routes are at least a few megabytes, and new installations seem to have a problem downloading assets more than a meg or two. Don't know why, but it's not just me, others have noticed this too. In this case, it helps to download off the black pages (web DLS, link above) but I just bought an FCT because of the speed thing.

When you do get the route installed, it'll usually automatically install any dependencies while you're in CMP. It'll also often skip some. If you see a yellow puzzle piece, right-click, select View Dependencies. Any with a gray question mark are located off site and you have to play the find the kuid game every Trainzer knows and loathes so well. At this point, select View on Main List and any you need or are broken (aside from ones not on the DLS) will be shown in the main list and, at this point, you can download any CMP missed the first time or fix any broken ones.

RRSignal, I appreciate your response, but I am completely lost. I don't understand a thing you said. What is CMP?

My content manager now shows the Robe River Iron, and about 50 or so things that seem to go with it (I see Kangaroos listed, and that goes with Australia). All of these are in the upper left corner of the content manager with green check marks. This makes me think they are ready to use. But now, I don't know what to do. How do I use them?

Hi Dean, welcome to the new way of trainz.
First at the lunce pad of trainz is the content that (CMP)Click on it.
Now when it open,go to search.
In the box next to the one that said location click on arrow click on download station. Here is all the thangs that are free to down load.
Now back to the search click on the + when the two boxes show click the arrow and click catagory,the next box will have the word route all the routes that you can download again free.
Once you have DLed(downloaded) a route go to the boxes on top and fine Open for Edit, click on it, if there more then one you will need to commit them by right clicking on the top one go down to select all,they should turn blue.Now hit CTRL & M at the same time and all will be saved and commited.
Now go back to search and change location to local, you should see the route you just DL.(downloaded)
This seem like a lot to do but after you do it a couple times it will become old hat.If you don't have a First Class ticket i would recanmand you get one, for about $25.00 you get it for a year well worth it.

I am still lost. Danny5, I followed your step-by-step instructions. When I get to your instruction to "Click on for Edit", I do that. It opens up, but there are no files in it to click on.

"CMP" is "Content Manager Plus", plus what I have no idea. All that should be unneeded complication, if it's not broken don't try to fix it. The way it should go is anything you download will not be open for edit when it arrives, if it is THEN you go thru all the screwing around to commit whatever isn't already good.

"FCT" is a First Class Ticket, you buy one of those to get a faster connection that's not busy or busted as often as the regular download station. A "KUID" is the identifying number for each asset. This may help;

http://www.trainsim.com/vbts/showthread.php?302069-My-choo-choo-is-broke!

Covers how to copy and paste KUID numbers and error messages.

Robe River Iron apparently comes in several build versions;

In content manager, View, Columns, Build Version gives you that extra tab at the top which shows the build number, higher numbers are newer builds. That being the case 3.0 is the latest version of that route, so I right click on it and select download.

Should get something like that, searching, downloading, installing in the upper left corner;

And Idle means it's done all it's gonna do, so click the Clear button to empty the list for the next time. Select the route you just downloaded, same "robe river iron" search should turn it up. The yellow ! warning doesn't hurt anything, see the bottom picture in that "My choo-choo is broke" thread for what all the icons mean.

Sniper, thank you for your detailed help. As it turns out, I cannot find a Robe River Route that works with Trainz12. I tried your dowloading instructions with some small items. I ended up downloading an entire Superliner trainset, and locomotive, and everything worked perfectly. I am finally seeing how to download things. Thank you everyone who replied for your help.

Now if u want to download things from 3rd party sites all u do is click download file. two windows will pop up. Trainz has it's own file .cdp click open on the first box. Then let it download. When it is done CMP will open automactily. For me as a 09 user it will commit automactily. I don't know about 12. If there is no auto commit the file should come up in CMP and it will have a tools sign witch means it is open for edit
right click a rectangle should apper go to open for edit the commit. And there u go!

I have a question too. How do u turn off the auto commit in 09?
