how do i create an indusry

navycruiser - please register your copy of Trainz so we can see (at the top of your messages) which version you have then we may be able to assist you.

Click the "Serial Number" button at the top of this page, and fill out the form in the resulting dialog. ;)

The serial number, also known as the CD key, is the code that you had to enter when you installed Trainz, and which you must also enter in to your Planet Auran account by using the instructions above. ;)

Regards.

I see the TS2009 icon next to your username on your posts now, so you must have registered your serial number correctly. ;) Thanks! ;)

Regards.

there are industries i can place on the map, like the lumber mill, but how do i script new industry?

Welcome to the crazy world of Trainz. Scripting a new industry can be difficult, even if you have programming experience. Take a look at PrototLars assets. You can use them to set up all kinds of interactive activities without learning .gs scripting code. If you really want to get into script writing, check out the Scenario Scripting & Scriptlets Forum or the Content Creation Forum. They stay pretty much focused on scripting and content creation.

Just do a search of all of the forums and you will find an answer for almost anything.

You don't need to put it anywhere (just remember where you stored it). Launch Trainz and select Content from the Launcher window. This will start CM (Content manager).

Open the File menu. select Import CDPs, tell it where you stored the CDP file, click on it (the CDP file you downloaded) and then click Open. CM will install the content for you. It may then force CM to locate and download dependencies (assets that have been added to the route), these will also be automatically installed and this may take some time, particularly in a large complicated route.

Eventually it will appear in the Routes section when you start Trainz.

Welcome to the world of Trainz headaches and frustrations.

I'm not sure exactly what kuid stands for but it is a unique serial number that identifies an asset (tree, rock, house, locomotive, complete layout, etc, etc - anything that can be loaded into Trainz) by the userID number of the person who created it and the type of object it is.

For example: anything I create will have a kuid beginning with 45176 (my unique userID number) followed by a colon then numbers that represent the type of asset that I have created. Everyone who registers on this site will have their own unique kuid userID number.

I am assuming that when you installed the CDP file (the layout you downloaded) CM then began the process of downloading and installing all the assets (each with their own kuid) it contained that you did not already have installed - that's what CM does when you install any asset. These assets are stored on the Trainz DLS (Download Station) which is part of the Trainz web server.

Missing assets can be caused by:-
  1. the asset is a new one and the DLS has not yet made it available for downloading by CM (or some other likely explanation). Try downloading these missing assets at a later time - a few days, a week later. CM has tools for identifying missing assets in anything you have downloaded.
  2. some creators add assets to their layouts that are not stored on the Trainz DLS - e.g. a particular type of grass, track, building, etc that they or someone else has created and decided to only supply from their web site and not from the DLS. So CM will be unable to locate and download these assets - this is a source of a lot of frustration in the Trainz community.
You may be able to locate a missing kuid by googling for it - e.g. if kuid 45176:100045 is missing then type that exact number into Google and see what it finds. But in my experience this can often lead to more frustration. Personally, I use only assets stored on the DLS or installed from the Trainz DVD in my layouts, sessions and other creations. Likewise, I will not use any layouts, etc that contain non DLS assets. This makes my life easier and reduces my blood pressure.

Some missing assets are unimportant - e.g. does it really matter if a particular type of tree does not show up in the layout? Others will cause problems - e.g. the layout creator has used their own non-DLS track and it is impossible to find anywhere. Worse are those creators who add payware assets to their layouts so if you want the missing assets, you have to buy them.
The other problem you will eventually come across will be assets that are faulty - usually due to design errors. This is an entire new world of frustration.

I would stick to routes that are on the DLS - those by Philskene, for example, usually rely only on assets that are available on the DLS.
