How do I change a cab view on a locomotive?

Read title.. (BTW, Do you have to ask the original creator if you want to modify a cab view for yourself? You promise you won't release it though.)

What exactly do you want to do?

Change to a different cab (change the kuid number to the new cab you want to use, in the interior line in the config file)

Allow you to move around in the cab (add the line -freeintcam to your trainzoptions.txt file and then use the cursor keys to move around and the RH mouse button to rotate the view)

Add extra views from the main mesh (use PEVs Attachment Maker to add a.outsideviewx - where x is a number from 0 upwards. See the CCG for more details on this)

Something else?

Is that the only line in the config file that needs to be changed? A couple of the SD40-2s that are a part of the new East Kentucky 3 route have the rather unattractive default cab interior, so I changed them to the kuid of the cab for the GP40s which are much higher resolution. Either I missed something, or that particular interior won't work on other assets, because all I saw in the interior view were 2 window frames, handles, and brake gauge and speed recorder needles floating in midair. It's not a big deal, since I am often in an external view anyway, but I thought it was worth a shot.

I've been away from train sims for several years now, and just recently got back into it after picking up TRS2010 on Amazon's sale over the holidays. I'm aware there may be issues with that version, but so far everything I've tried has worked fine. Still researching and studying the product, but clearly there's still a lot to learn.

Inside taller than Outside!

The interior of the Metra FP40H <kuid2:7592:10223:1> is conspicuously higher above the rails than the exterior. How do i lower its elevation? I don't see anything obvious in the config.txt.

Open the interior kuid for Edit in Explorer and edit the config.txt file camera default value. Here's the quote from the CCG2006.pdf:
"cameradefault - The in-cab camera view Trainz defaults to when entering the cab."
The camera views are defined by the x,y,z values. x is left right, y is fore and aft and z is up down. Negatives are right, forward and below. Positive values are left, aft and up. The reference point is the attachment point a.cabfront. To determine these variables add -freeintcam to the trainzoptions.txt file. Pan around the interior in Driver, using arrow keys and mouse. Co-ordinates are displayed at bottom-left
of screen.

Not what I meant.

The entire cab itself is riding at a higher elevation above the rails than the loco itself. From exterior, loco passes neatly under the bridge. From interior, bridge passes neatly through the windshield and through the cab. This is not a camera issue as far as I understand it; perhaps an attachment point issue.

ere are 3 F40PH locos and the x,y,z coordinates for the a.cabfront attachment point.
Amtrak F40PH,<kuid2:58843:72:4> 0.002, -6.210, 3.157
Amtrak F40PH 398,<kuid:46162:50404> 0.000. -6.000, 2.700
Metra F40PH,<kuid2:7592:10223:1> 0.002, -6.210, 3.157

You can often fix this by adding a "position x,y,z" tag to the config.txt of the offending cab and changing the "z" value. However if the cab is used in other locos it may mess things up in those.

I'm a numbskull

I can't find a.cabfront in any file I look in, and I get an error 'tag "position" not allowed in container "interior"'. What should I be editing, exactly? And what the hell is this? ==> :mop:

That happened to me too. All I see is a throttle, and some needles.

Is it possible that the cab is oriented backwards, and you are looking at it from its transparent side? The throttle and needles may have double-sided faces and were therefore visible.

I'm suggesting this because this exact thing was happening to me while I was having trouble with cab attachment points.
