how big are your railways/railroads

Hmmmm
Well at this point The Chicago Trainz Route is 44.66 mb
overall 28x36 wide (1036 boards) but using about 700+ actually.......

Just finishing up final touches of scenery and will be released in December for sure.........
I may have to have this as a third party d/l definately will have a supporting website., with maps,history and suggestive scripts etc...
but overall looking good and running smooth so far...main delays have been keeping frame rates high which overall are pretty good so far.......
big routes and lousy frame rates dont work..........

Dave =)

Hmm...

I wonder what would happen if gfisher put together a route more than 30 miles long? How many Gigs would that be?

I've been working on the Front Range and Greeley subdivision of northern Colorado for over 2 years. I'm taking my time to make sure the elevation changes are accurate. This ranges from Cheyenne, WY to about 40 miles south towards Denver. Included are all the UP, BNSF and Great Western short line routes. One layout is present day with real industries and the other is the same region from the sugar beet, steam engine era, serving many industries that have faded away. This has been going much better now that in this area again! I'm hoping to have it done by next spring.

Ok, nobody laugh, but I have been building the same route for the past 3 years. It will probably be another year before I am finished building it and it will be ready to download.

It is about 300 baseboards and about 80 miles long. How long would it take to go the full route? Probably several hours, I have not run the full distance yet. (i'm spending all my time building the darn thing!)

I won't laugh, but I'll join the route building club along with you. I'm still working on the same route I started about 3 years ago as well. This is the 2nd incarnation after the first one became corrupted somehow. I was able to salvage a few bits of the old one and merge it into the new one, and it was started only a few months after the first one.

The trouble with working on routes this long a time is that we get better at what we're doing so we have to go back and revise the old parts.

kind of like working on a model railroad. It takes so long that you always see things that you want to redo. They're never really finished.
