Houses and Shops

Without a doubt the biggest limitation on making a large suburb or town is that there are so few houses and shops. In particular free standing American and Australian houses. The DLS is pretty useless because it brings up mostly irrelevant things wiht 'house' in the name, and when you do find some actual useable houses, there's a very small amount of them.

Does anyone have a pack, or know of a site that has, say, at least 100 models of different houses and shops?

In the freeware section, there is a thread by Davesnow that has structures that I think would be suitable. Most (if not all) are also on the DLS. (search Author>Davesnow) I have enough to build small cities if I wish. The ones with nightmode are a nice treat as well.

There are 128 free standing houses. Some come already built in, but all have lo-poly versions (for distance placement) and hi-poly versions (for close to the track).

Have you tried expanding your search i.e. house, cottage, detached, building etc. and search shops by trade i.e. butcher, post office, computer, florist, store and so forth. There are also a number of shop fronts which can be use to convert houses to shops. It's sometimes also worth searching in other languages, use Google to find the relevant term. Peter

All mine have the word "house" in the name. And I've made a BUNCH of them! I know there are wareHOUSEs but try searching for "house" and the person's username, too.

have a look for aus house under johnwhelan. These are multiple houses together but with a distance between them. Less impact than separate houses.

Also look for CDN houses too. Nice little brick Victorian houses of different styles, which work well anywhere actually in North America especially in the Northeast.
