House Cleaning my Trainz

With the winter months just around the corner here in the East I thought I'd clean out my Trainz. What I'm planning on doing is going through my installed items and those that are used only one or two times and disabling them.
Am I correct in stating that when they are disabled they will still be in the route but I won't be able to use them in any other routes unless I enable them?
I'm fairly certain that I won't be using them again in any route building in the future but if I go back to a route that already has them in it they should still be there, correct?
This is going to be a time consuming project but when I'm finished my machine/trainz should be a leaner, meaner Trainz machine. Please correct me if my assumptions are wrong. Thankz.

Your assumtion is correct, disabled items are still in the database, will still show up in routes that use them and will still be listed in CMP.

Since they're still cluttering up the asset lists in CMP, I don't see what the advantage is.

That is partially correct as you can set your filters to not list any disabled content. The main advantage is that you won't see those listed in surveyor.
