Highway Engineers playing with Trainz

It's a good observation, but I don't believe that it is Trainz. It appears to be either an Autocad or Microstation rendering using one of their 3d road design packages such as Inroads. I could be mistaken though. I have personally used Trainz to model buildings that I've been designing to visualize them in a setting.

Actually, I think it looks more like sim city 4 than anything else but as Leeferr mentioned, I think it's a separate program they are using.

You have an interesting thought and I would like to believe they are using Trainz, but it would be out of character for a government to use an off-the-shelf program for $30 when a custom built multi million $$ program can do almost as well. :D

BL4882 hit the nail right on the head. Why spend $30 when you can waste millions? Take a look at these fantastic videos made in the home of Trainz (Brisbane Australia). Did they use Trainz? I'm afraid not, but this is what this wonderful $30 program is capable of doing, including the moving people which have been done by a Russian Trainz team.

Please Note: These are videos of the proposed Gold Coast Light Railway. I've already posted links to the videos before so you may have already seen them.

But it's quite in character that they can't spell "aerial".:hehe:

This is definitely not Trainz as pointed out above. It looks more AutoDeskish to me and probably from their Microsystem software. I had the opportunity to use it once. It was the most overly complicated POS I had ever used.

Nice program but defnitly notTrainz. NYSDOT uses very high end applications purchased by the M.O. in Albany, tested and then issued to the regional offices for implementation.

Great Videos !

I really enjoyed the 3 videos, and especially the smooth paning and zooming. I really got a kick out of watching the zombie-like moving people...they are a facinating asset, achiving a super high degree or realizim.

it was rumoured that MSTS 2 was to have moving people. Maybe the video was created with a beta version, but I'm inclined to think they were produced with much more expensive animation software at a far greater cost. Trainz is definitely capable of reaching this high level of realism, but maybe it's still a couple of years off.

well, it seems like trainz has the capabilities to do this now. for example when filling tankers using the multiple industry, there is a nozzle that recognizes where to appear (the location of the car filling cap)... so it seems that one might be able to reverse engineer this to create a system that recognizes door openings, then creates variouse patterns of people that disembark the train, and proceed to a designated (and possibly programable exit). what more, one could make this an invisable platform, so that it may be adjusted to fit any and all premade platforms....

just my two cents,

Nick

Interesting vids. are the roofs of the stations solar panels? they sort of look like them to me.

Nick: Agreed, but way beyond my capacity.
Peter: Yes, I think they are meant to be solar panels.
