Herd instinct

Someone wanted me to post a more detailed shot of cows I made. This screenshot of a Friesian herd in rural England was made by fellow Trainzer, D-RAIL.

Any 'udder' screenshots.

Seriously, we are working on the Beech Forest Railway and one of the main industries was dairying. Some of these would be perfect. Can you do other breeds? Even the same form with a lighter brown would be lovely.

Great pieces of content .. but ... sorry for discussing it: the color ain't right. Friese koeien (dutch for Friesian cows) is not green (could be something as BSE .. lol), but black. Is it possible to change the color of the spots into black or brown/black?

Check photo of Friesian cow:

Mooosic

Great, moosic to my ears! And right in our field of vision too.

On my last 2 miles of WCL2, so if I don't get back to it I will be all behind, like a cow's tail....

I think they're great!

Try changing your settings if you're that unhappy about the green tinge. Time of day, background and gamma can all make a huge difference, as can the the relationship of one colour against another. For me they are fine as they are and a very welcome asset to my route.

Thanks Deane.

Oh, and in a quiet corner of one of my fields, a little more ruminating has been going on:

I think the critics should think awhile before comment. Sure Fresian Cows are black and white. At the Agriculture shows they are powdered with chalk and in some cases talc, black markings oiled to look jet. Prior to this treatment they are washed and washed again. The photo shown is of one of these cows. The cows produced for the screenshot were produced to resemble a dairy herd coming in from pasture for early morning milking. I can only assume Vendal has never been held up on a country road in the UK behind a herd of Fresian Cows in early spring a few days out at first grass.
The dung from these cows is almost liquid and realy green. Think of it anything from 50 to 200 cows. at first waiting close packed to driven across fields or down country roads. Then packed tight in a holding yard while they wait thier turn to go into the milking parlour, Standing flicking muck covered tails against each other splashing chests shoulders and backs to show a fine green sheen on their neighbour. Remember we in the UK have long wet cold winters and very damp, somtimes warm summers. You get dirty just walking in the fields, and theses cows lay in them. We produce some of the best breeding stock in the world, but may be due to our climate, not the cleanest every day cow. Hence the marine green sheen!. Loco's and Rolling Stock look great weathered so why not cows.

I believe that much like a sloth, the cows have a bit of algae on them due to damp environmental conditions and lack of movement as is evident by their close tight quarters as shown in the picture. I didn't know there were rivet counters for cows (cows don't really have rivets, although perhaps mechanical bulls do). I'm surprised no one has complained that they don't have manure "wings" around their exhausts. Do they have a prototypical sounds, or do they need MORE COWBELL? Should they have ARN brandings?

If you aren't 100% happy with the color, clone one (here is another can of worms being opened for the cow puns) and tweak the TGA file to your liking. Very simple.

Those cows are just doing what the oil companies do, putting on a public relations show about "going green" while all the time belching out (well in a cow's case it is a bit different for the most part) carbon dioxide and roasting the planet. ;)

Regarding the colour, well I did go back to the original requester who supplied the images I used and he was OK with them as is. I will be breeding some others and they will probably include some truly black/white hides.

I don't think we have herd enough puns in this thread, people should be milking it for all it's worth :D I'll stop now before someone has a beef against me and tries to steak their claim. What a cowtastrophe!

(ps. cows look great)
