Helper locos

I'm working on a modified Avery-Drexel steam scenario, which requires a helper loco. So, I set up a loco to join the back of the train, after looking to see how they did a similar setup in Marias Pass X route. Only thing is, the loco, when I looked, wasn't helping -it's sitting with the regulator on 0.

So far, there's a trigger waiting for the player train to pass the switch ahead of the helper, then a rule to wait for the train to stop, then the helper driver has a schedule to couple to the back of the player train. So far so good. How do I get that helper to actually help though? Autopilot?

The driver needs to stay in the helper loco, as later on it will have to run around the train. Aside from which, I don't think it's credible that a steam loco can be operated remotely from the other end of the train :D

Take the driver off the train , you can put him/her back later , then that loco becomes part of the whole train as far as I know. I think you can control any loco from anywhere on the train if you click on it.

steam trains on trainz if helping have to be operated separately and the thing is you have to couple to the helper or else you have to drive the hold train via the helper. its weird i know but trainz has it set up that when a engine hooks up to a train if you already driving it that engine that hooks up becomes the head of the train meaning all the commands you have set up have to be relayed through that new engine now.

thanks for the info. controlling both locos together wouldn't work anyway, since they're different types. It works fine with diesel or electric locos, since any cab controls all of them. It's not that hard to have the train couple to the helper, rather than the other way around. Or I could have the helper already coupled at the beginning of the scenario. Wonder what happens if you have a steam train with a diesel helper?
