Help with starting Russian diesels

I'm having the worst time trying to get the DM62-1804 and M62-1733 to operate properly in cab mode. I am able to get them to start, but when turning the key, a whistle starts blowing and makes the emergency brake apply. It's been a long time since I've operated one of these in TS12 and am at a complete loss with how to properly run them. Any help would be appreciated.

I heard some of them are pretty complex to start.
