Help with gMax

I am just starting with gMax 1.2. I have 'The gMax Bible" and "The gMax Handbook", but could use some personal assistance. Is there anyone in the Minneapolis, MN, area that would be willing to consult with me om gMax in general and some of my specific problems?

Thanks in advance for any help,

Hello and welcome to the wonderful world of Trainz Development!

You are about to embark on a very arduous but most enjoyable adventure!

Take the time to search through the development forum and you will find lots of information on using gmax.

If you have never used a 3d development tool, may I suggest trying Blender? It is a current application with far more features than gmax and it too is free. For those who can not afford 3dmax, blender in my opinion is the way to go. I started out with gmax but have switched to blender.

Admittedly, the interface in blender takes some time to get used to, but if you have not used a 3d program before, the learning curve will not be as difficult.

Check some of posts in the development forum for links to blender and gmax tutorials. Pay special attention to paul hobbs tutorials regardless of which 3d app you decide to go with.

Have Fun

There is a learning curve on GMAX which is quite steep, Blender has one as well but it isn't quite as bad. Before continuing with GMAX have a read of Paul Hobbs first Blender tutorial for his thoughts. If you wish to continue with GMAX then do his first GMAX tutorial to set up GMAX correctly.

No matter which you choose rember that Trainz will use about 5% of the information in the books and the rest will just add to the confusion. You're probably better off sticking to the tutorials.
