Help With Downloading and Locating Assets From Content

I am obtaining inconsistent results with downloading and finding assets. For example, today I selected "Boxcab_Bogey" by Whitepass from the online Content. I rightclicked to Download, which placed the asset into my Download section and identified it as being an 8.06 MB file. I activated Download and watched as the file was supposedly downloaded and installed. After completion, the indicated amount of data downloaded was 3.36MB, not 8.06 MB. Furthermore, I have searched the entire contents of my Railyard and I cannot find this new asset.

I have had similar difficulties with other download activities. I have a FCT. My results are inconsistent. There are some assets that I have downloaded and found in my Railyard.

One more question: I do not understand the logic behind the sorting of assets in Railyard. When sorted by Name, I can see a general Alphabetic sort, but it does not seem to be consistent. What is the sorting logic?

The asset Boxcab_Bogie is a dependency for a boxcab and therefore will not show up in Railyard as a separate vehicle, this is probably also the reason you do not see other assets you have downloaded - they are dependencies.

The sort will be done on ascii values so occasionally the order might seem strange. As an example if it was to show in the asset list your Boxcab_Bogie would appear in a very different position to one called Boxcab Bogie if there were other assets starting with Boxcab.

OK - the asset I chose turns out to be a dependency. Now, how do I search for and identify the main item so that I can download it? I typed "Box Cab" into the Search and up came a list of various items containing the words "Box Cab". I have right-clicked on each one of them and, in every case, "View Dependencies" is grayed out. There is also another little group of Box Cab Engines a bit further down in the list - I have checked them also and View Dependencies is grayed out on all of them as well.

So, am I to understand that a search on Box Cab will yield nothing but Dependencies? If so, how do I find the main item?

Regarding the Asset Sort Question: I understand the answer about the ascii sort. Is there a way to perform a Search in Railyard to find an asset, other than to just scroll up and down the entire list?

There is this one :

CN boxcab,<kuid2:58422:20:3> but it is build 3.7.

Try searching on author whitepass, he might have made others and any names that come up might help with additional searches.

On checking on the DLS Black pages that is what the bogie may belong to, if it's kuid is <KUID2:58422:50125:4>

I have checked both KUIDs mentioned in the last two posts - I assume that both listing are Dependencies because the View Dependencies is grayed out.

So, I'll ask my primary question again: How do I use the Search tool in Content Manager to find and identify the main listing for a particular item, such as a Box Cab Diesel Engine?

I am unaware of any way of showing what a dependency might belong to for assets on the dls, any you have already downloaded will be displayed with view dependent assets in CM. This question is often asked about sessions when there is nothing in the description or name to indicate what route it belongs to.

OK - now I understand a bit more. I found the CN Box Cab asset you mentioned. Before downloading it, I observed that View Dependencies was grayed out. After downloading and installing CN Box Cab, I looked again and View Dependencies was available for display (no longer grayed out).

But, my original question remains: How were you able to identify this particular asset as a "top-level" asset? How did you know that this KUID was a top level and not a Dependency?

I searched for Boxcab, one word, as in the bogie you mentioned in the first post, it was the only locomotive to show up with that name apart from earlier versions of the same asset, hence my suggestion to search for its author, whitepass. I assumed it was the locomotive from the description and the asset picture.

OK. Thanks for your help. I gather from our exchange that there is no special asset data to distinguish a top-level asset from a dependent asset.

It would seem to me that authors could help alleviate this concern by simply adding a bit of information in the asset's description to classify an asset as either being a top-level asset with or without dependencies or an asset that is a dependent asset and giving the top-level asset name or KUID number for the top level asset to which that dependent asset is attached.
