HELLO ALL I am new to trainz I have trainz12 and am running windows 8.1 my problem is that when I down load certain things it says that dependencies are missing, some things load just fine and I'm able to use them just fine. being a beginner I am needing to find out is A: how and where do I find missing dependencies and B: when I do locate these dependencies how do I go about fixing this. Thanks for any advise.

Welcome to the forums.

Assets with missing dependencies are usually indicated by a yellow puzzle piece with a question mark inside.

To find out what the dependencies are, right-click the problem asset and click View Dependencies. This will produce a box with a list of the asset's dependencies. Any that are shown with a grey square with a black question mark are unknown assets that will involve looking on a third-party Trainz site.

In terms of finding the actual dependencies, you can post the problem KUIDs that are given (KUID stands for Koolthingz Identifier (or something like that) and each asset has one to uniquely identify it.

No problem. I've got to go offline for the night shortly, so you may get someone else answering before I can. The format of the KUIDs in question should be either <KUID:xxxxx:xxxxx> or <KUID2:xxxxx:xxxxx:xx> (note - there may be more or less than 5 digits on the second and third parts, and more or less than 2 on the last part for a KUID2 asset).

A note though. If the KUID starts with a negative number, this can mean that the asset is built-in to at least one version of Trainz, or in a payware pack available from Simulator Central (N3V's online store).

Welcome to the forums, TJ!

To help explain the KUID system, which Shane briefly mentioned, they're are a unique identifier for all the objects in Trainz. They are divided in to three parts and are in two versions, KUID and KUID2 respectively, followed by the USER ID and then the ASSET ID.

If you want to try a search yourself, you can use Google, or Bing. Sometimes it's actually easier to search via the browser search engines than it is via the forums!

In Bing or Google, put in KUID xxxxxx xxxxxx using spaces because the search engines get mixed up with the brackets and colons.

Searching for KUIDs can be a pain, but as Shane mentioned here list them and we will assist.

Hope this helps.

So, naturally here comes the next question: Let's say you show a missing asset (or often, several). How do you filter to find if it has an update? As I do it, I locate the asset, if we are lucky, and check if it has a 2 at start of Kuid, on by one at DLS. It is time consuming, so is there a better way?

I normally use View Asset Versions to check if it has an update. Normally though, downloading a route normally picks up the latest version of the asset in question (that your version can support) at the time of the download.

Ive also found that sometimes the kuid table of an asset is looking for a lower version number of the dependencies than what you have installed. I found this out when checking CMP for a missing kuid only to find a newer one was installed. On checking the asset versions only the latest was installed and when I changed the version number in the kuid table it went away.
