Hi this is one of my first posts so bear with me. I just downloaded Trainz2012 yesterday from the downloadable version online. I have been having trouble with it running slow. I had all kinds of other flight simulators on my pc but i deleted them and they worked fine. Im running Vista. Any ideas on speeding it up.???

Thanks
Adam

Hi Adam,

Welcome to Trainz.

The first thing to do is to register your copy of TS2012.
Once registered one of the modules of TS2012 CPM ( Content Manager Plus ) will be able to connect to the Trainz server and this may solve your problem.

Secondly once we Forum readers can see you have registered a legal copy of Trainz we will be more willing to help you.
If the problem continues after you have registered post back with more details, exactly what is 'running slow' and your computer specifications.

( Oh, another thing, posting in all CAPS is called 'shouting' and frowned upon in forums )

Sorry for the CAPS. When I mean slow i mean a very choppy, lagging, sound cutting in and out performance. Here are my Specs.
Gateway DX4300
AMD 7750 Dual core processor 2.70 Ghz
6 Gb
64-bit operating system
Vista
ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics

And no the content manager did not help much and i registered my game too

Thanks.

Hi Adam, welcom to trainz. first off looks like that you have aready registerd your TS12, good.
Go to Main Menu, go down to Options, first thing that you see, is Video Setting. Set your slider to 2000m to start.
When I first started my TS12 up, My distance was set at 5000m (Max) and that made my computer run slow.
See if that adjustment will help you out. Let me know what happends.

See ya, -Robert-

Hi Adam and welcome to Trainz and the forums.

Is your PC a desktop or laptop?

I am not familiar with the 3200 series AMD Radeon graphics cards. I was out of the AMD/ATI realm for quite some time and have stepped back in with the 68xx and 69xx series, which are quite a world apart from where I was over 10 years ago.

My feeling is your processor is fine and so is your memory.

Your biggest hangup is your video card.

I asked if this is a desktop or laptop because if it is a portable you can't upgrade the graphics because this would be built into your machine. A desktop gives you a better chance at this.

There are some suggestions I can make here that may help your performance.

1) Keep your drive defragmented
2) Turn off any uneeded services and background programs such as Skype, filesharing programs, and anything else that isn't necessary to run your computer and remain safely on the internet at the same time.
3) Keep your system cool. Trainz will cause it to heat up as it works the components. For laptops, get one of those cooler things you place the machine on. For desktops check the fans and add more if you can.
4) Run the program as administrator so the program has full access to its folders.

According to the specs (via Google) you have an on board graphics chip.

256MB (shared) ATI Radeon HD 3200 integrated graphics chip.

You really need a dedicated modern graphics card with at least 128 bit card 512MB of DDR 2 or 3 memory, preferably 256 bit with 1GB or more of DDR5
Trainz requires a lot higher hardware requirement that the average flight sim I'm afraid.

Hi Adam, may I ask what brand and how old is your desktop? The reason I ask is to see if you can get a graphic card. or have one installed. I have a Nvidia GeForce 9500 GT, and it handles TS12 o.k. for me. I bought my card at Staples and cost $129.95 You may be able to get it on sale for under $100.00 That may sound like alot of money, but it's wroth it. Hope this helps you out. Have a good day -Robert-

P.S. By re-reading your post I see that it,s a newer Gateway and there should not be any problem to install a video card.

You neeed a new graphics card.... ATI 4320 wouldnt run 10 very well, I couldnt imagine how that will run it...... I prefer to get an NIVIDA 9600GT, thats what I am running now.... and it runs 10 well, I also have 2006 and some other games on here...

If your PC power supply is 400W or less check out the nVidia GT430 graphics cards with 1GB of RAM. Mine runs Trainz 10 at an average of 30 FPS, which is more than adequate. They can be purchased on line in the $50-$60 (US) range.
