Help, please, with DAP's 36 ft billboard reefers

Hello all,

I'm looking for help with the cars mentioned in the title. The following refers specifically to DAP's KUID:32711:100268. The errors mentioned below are common to all of the reefers of his of this series that I have downloaded and installed. None of them will show in TS2010 native, but they do in compatibility, and boy are they good looking, by the way. FWIW these cars load without errors or warnings in TS12.

When shown in the main list of CMP the following errors occur:
"Error: The kuid '<kuid2:124060:60003:1>' specified in 'default-mesh' is not of the correct type.
"Error: The kuid '<kuid2:124060:60003:1>' specified in 'default-mesh' is not of the correct type."

The asset kuid2:124060:60003:1 is Pencil42's Janney coupler, which is now built in. According to its config file, its asset type is "bogey."

The coupler appears at this location in the reefer's config file as follows.

mesh-table
{
default
{
mesh "boxcar_body/reefer.lm"
auto-create 1

effects
{
0
{
kind "attachment"
att "a.coupler01"
default-mesh <kuid2:124060:60003:1>
}

1
{
kind "attachment"
att "a.coupler02"
default-mesh <kuid2:124060:60003:1>

The config file goes on with air hoses and some other things after this. I attempted to correct this by changing the coupler's "type" from "bogey" to "mesh," using another type of coupler as a model. This was about as successful as those of you with knowledge superior to mine I'm sure would expect. The car appeared in native mode but without a visible coupler.

When you are done laughing at my ineptitude would someone please make a suggestion as to a fix that would solve this problem? :hehe: I am slowly managing to acquire a few increments of knowledge that would allow me to deal with these things myself and would really like to add this one to my collection of information.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Any ideas? Especially, why would these assets show up without errors or warnings in TS12, but be fatally flawed in TS2010? That sounds weird to me, since the consensus here is that TS12 is pickier than TS2010.

Firstly, I am using TS2010 in native mode so I do not know how my findings will work in other versions.
I have had a look at these 36ft reefers and as you say they look good. The asset kuid2:124060:60003:1, Janney coupler, is used by other boxcars including some by dap and in these it appears in the bogie table. Moving the lines from the mesh table to the bogie table while getting rid of the error resulted in no coupler appearing in game.
When I edited the coupler's config file to say mesh instead of bogie the coupler did appear in game but it broke all the other boxcars using it as a dependency which were looking for the asset as type bogie.
I got round this by cloning the coupler, changing the type to mesh and replacing the coupler in the 36ft reefers with the new asset, now all assets appear with their couplers.

I do not know why the coupler needs to be a mesh in some dependent assets and a bogie in others, perhaps dap can help us out.

Well, dnevans8, I followed your prescription to the letter and it worked. These cars now show up in TS2010 native and TS12. I was a bit skeptical at first because I tried it before, as I indicated in my original post and the car showed but the coupler did not. I must have neglected to commit the modified coupler or made some other mistake. Moral: Triple check everything, especially if you are me. :)

Thank you for your help, sir. From the curiosity standpoint I hope someone who stumbles on this thread can answer some of the other questions.

Some versions of Trainz don't mind type bogies (and others) being used as mesh attachments, and some do. If you'd like, feel free to upload your cloned mesh-type couplers to the DLS so others can use them.

Curtis

Ditto Curtis' recommendation to upload. I only run TS12 any more so I had no idea there was a problem.

@ Curtis and David,

Since you believe this fix is worthy of upload to the DLS I will upload it with a bullet point instruction on retrofitting the coupler. I must say though, all I did was change one word in the coupler's config file and replace the built in Janney, and, in fact, if dnevans8 had not alerted me to the fact I might have made an error of my own in trying to implement the fix, I would have rejected it and might still be waiting to hear something.

Anyhow, the description will emphasize that you two are responsible for these beautiful assets. David, I'm going to download the rest of your content I'm interested in, to verify that the problem persists in other pieces of rolling stock, then do the upload in the next day or so.

Thank you both for your superior assets and your commitment to make them available to as many Trainzers as possible.

Could we get some screen shots of these 36' billboard reefers so that those of us w/oTrainz 2012 can see what we are missing. In fact I would like to see a screen shot album of all 19th Century locos and rolling stock and their availabilty.

As suggested by Curtis and David, I did attempt to upload a modified version of the Janney Coupler built into TS2010, the version that has a native mode problem with the reefers, to the DLS. This was not possible because the version number is 2.4 and only versions 2.8 and higher are permitted. Attempting higher version numbers introduced other problems beyond my ability to fix now.

The solution, for those having the fault problem, "Error: The kuid '<kuid2:124060:60003:1>' specified in 'default-mesh' is not of the correct type," in TS2010 native mode is as simple as they come.

1. Clone the asset Janney Coupler, <kuid2:124060:60003:1>, and make a note of the new KUID that will be assigned to the clone of the coupler.
2. View the clone in the CMP main list and open for edit in Explorer.
3. Open the Config.txt file.
4. At the top you will see the the second line starting with "Kind" containing the word "bogey." Change "bogey" to "mesh."
5. Save, then commit your new coupler.
6. Go to the config file of the reefer you want to fix and wherever you see <kuid2:124060:60003:1> replace it with the KUID of your cloned asset. Save and commit and you should have an error free reefer.

It takes longer to type out the fix than it does to accomplish it so no one should be deterred from downloading and using these reefers from DAP.

I have just uploaded my mesh version of the Janney coupler (<kuid:351473:100002>) to the dls. Additional changes to the Category-region and Category-era tags were necessary so that the asset could be upgraded to trainz build 2.9 which is a requirement of uploading. Any asset using the original coupler and showing up as faulty in TS2010 will need to be modified by replacing any occurence of <kuid2:124060:60003:1> with <kuid:351473:100002> in the config.txt file as described above.

Sorry I have been so slow in doing this but I have been setting up a new computer and have only just got TS2010 loaded and operational. (still downloading updates though)

Thanks to Curtis (Pencil42) for permission to upload the modified version of his asset.

Thanks for doing that. I spent a good deal of time trying to figure it out, but just couldn't manage it.
