Help - Parallel tracks

Hi all,

I'm new to Trainz. Love the concept, wish i had of been onto it earlier.

Having a problem laying parallel tracks (running in opposite directions). I have read http://trains.0catch.com/tutorial.html Running straight parallel tracks is fine, but when I run my 2nd track parallel to a curved track, the 2nd track won't follow the 1st. The only way i've been able to get around it is to make lots of splines and move them into place, which for mine is too much work. Any ideas?

Well that too. Thats what i do in my yards when i don't want the tracks to join. Didn't even cross my mind to help here. Smart thinkin gandalf.

Hi all,

On the straight sections of track, ensure that the "straighten track" tool has been applied. So long as your spline points are exactly alongside each other and always the same distance apart, the two tracks will remain parallel.

However when you introduce junctions you will need to modify this technique by using short straightened track sections at the base of each point.

If you"re laying curved double track the obviously most important thing is to have the Track Spline Points beside each other on each track. Then the curvature has to match. And the fewer TSPs the better-don"t overdo it.

Using single track is possibly the best option laying each section in the direction of travel (this also makes signalling a lot easier) use the straighten track tool as necessary to square up your junctions, take care with even spacing (here the spline points are a good guide) and make the outer curve just a fraction longer than the inner for best results
Stretching a ruler through sections of track will also help with alignment

Hi,

As trackplate said above, using single track would be the better option in the direction of travel, makes it easier to signal, place directional markers and trackmarks along with other things.

But what I do is, lay down 1 track in the direction you want it, then at each spline point (where the track joins), I place a "track guide" to help line up the next track.

I created these track guides to help do this, on the DLS, do a search for my kuid which is 74510 in Trackside Accessories or just do a search for track_guide and have a look at them, there is 5 of them I did.

Hope this helps... :)
