Help my route won't load

I have been working on a route the past 4 months and it has been working fine until today. For some reason the session of my route won't load. I thought maybe I was building the route too large. I have approx 300 baseboards on the route. It goes around 80 miles from one end to the other. I did an extended data base repair, but that didn't help. My version is TS2010EE build 44088. I am running Vista 64 bit OS. Computer has 8 GB memory and graphics card has 512 MB memory. It has been running great for the past year with no problems. I just don't know where to start looking for what would be causing my route to not load. I am not familiar with where to look for the size of the file the route is using. Any help will be greatly appreciated. It seems like maybe all my past work is gone....

Don't Panic

Databases are finicky creatures, and can ignore, hide or misplace items at will. Usually they turn up though. When I was using 2006 I had a route that wandered off for a few months, then came back unannounced one day.

Have you downloaded and installed anything new between the periods of session present and session AWOL? Lightning strikes? Anything unusual?

And of course, you've already imported your backup, right?;)

Come and trout-whack me, I am guilty of not backing up

And of course, you've already imported your backup, right?;)

I am guilty as charged for not backing up my huge Trainz installations (both UTC and TRS2004 = about a dozen gigabytes). I used to back it up when I was using UTC, but a 2-gigabyte USB flash drive is hardly enough for a good Trainz installation, and it was a little inconvienent backing up each night, so I eventually stopped doing it. In more recent times, I got a huge-capacity external hard drive (many times more space on there than my computer's built-in hard drive), but I am lazy, so I think I have not even backed anything up on it yet. :o Feel free to whack me with a wet trout for that. ;) :hehe: :hehe: (See Wikipedia:Whacking with a Wet Trout. Simply place the text "{{Trout}}" (without the quotes) in a new section on my Wikipedia talk page: User talk:Retro00064, and a nice big trout with "Whack!" below it will be placed there. :hehe: :hehe: :hehe:)

Regards.

Well I just did a defrag on my hard drive. I have been using the Auslogic's Defrag utility program for over 2 years and haven't had any problems with it. I just updated it to a newer version which included a defrag with optimization on the new version. After the defrag is when I seemed to have lost my route file. It may have corrupted it or something. Also I have read that using the ruler tool uses a lot of computer resources. I have been working on extending the route and using the Ruler tool to make curves, etc. I have quite a large amount of the rulers on the route. I don't know if there would be a way to eliminate the rulers by editing the config.txt file some way or not. Well I have not made any back ups either, so I guess I am paying for it now. I guess I really don't know how to make a back up copy of my route either. Do you back it up to a CDP file or what...Thanks for help on any way to correct this problem, if there is a way.......Cheers........:o

Archiving Routes/Sessions

Hi
The only way i know of backing up routes and sessions are by using the Content Manager where you can use the archive function. Please some one tell me an easier method if there is one. If not you need to do the following

1.Create a folder on your hard drive and name it anything you want (EG My TR2010 Routes)
2.Launch Trainz 2010 and select Content on the very first menu
3.Select the tab labeled "My Content"
4.Hold down Shift and use Left Mouse button to select all the routes and sessions you want to archive then right mouse click on one of them and select archive
5.Ignore the box that pops up as this stops the archive from working, dont ask me why.
6.On the left hand side you will see a heading called Archiver, scroll down in the list and select the button Archive.
7.A pop up box will appear asking you to select the folder you want to store the archive files in, you use the folder you created on step 1.
8.File name should say *.cmpa enter a name of your choice but you must keep the .cmpa after the name.
9.Copy and paste the folder you created in step 1 onto a USB stick or any other external media
10.Thats it!!

I am confused by the way trainz handles their file structure. When I go in CM and find the route I am working on, it lists the route name and the session in that route that I am working on. What do you back up? Do you back up the route part, and then the session part separatly or does just the route have the session included in the back up? Like I say I don't understand the way trainz handles its files. I am used to finding a file that I have made by searching for the file name, but when I do a search for the route and session names on my computer, nothing comes up. Oh well I probably just lost the last 5 months of working on this route. I don't know if the help desk could give me any help or not. Thanks so much for the input....

Well I tried to archive my other route, but I had no luck. After dragging the route and session down to the archive panel and clicked on archive and then selected the folder I had made for the archive, I got a box that asked if I wanted to add dependences to the two files. I then clicked on the accept button to be able to proceed, but nothing happened. I can't find the files in the folder I selected. I then went back to the CM and tried to do it again, but it won't let me do it again. What's going on? Very confusing...Thanks....

in CM select the files you want to back up...and righ click on them and select the save to CDP option or something along those lines. Save them wherever you want...

Thanks Jayturf, it worked OK. The route that I mentioned above that I guess is lost, is still listed in CM, and I copied it to the CDP file and it did copy, but it sure won't open in surveyor. I just don't know what to do to get it back...Thanks again...
