Help, my engine's giving me the silent treatment!

I’m having a problem getting a steam loco to chuff. All the other sounds work fine: steam hiss, whistle etc. All of the .wav files are correctly named (piston_stroke1.wav …) and in the same directory as the enginesound config file. All the .wav files play correctly when I run them through media player – they just don’t play when I run the engine. Other engines, with the same config-file structure and .wav file, work fine.

Swapping the enginesound asset with a working enginesound does not help.
What’s going on?

Check the driving wheel(s) config file(s) as one of them should have a "direct-drive" entry with a value of 1.

No joy

Thanks for the response Colin.

The driver bogey didn't have a direct-drive tag, so, as you suggested, I added one. Unfortunately, it didn't help. And, to compound the mystery, I have several steam locos without direct-drive tags in their drivers whose sound work fine. This seems to contradict the part of the Content Creators Guide that says a direct-drive entry is required for the sound files to work. ???

The locos, both working sound and non-working sound are prowler901's. I think they are all vintage TS2006.

thanks, but ...

Bob,

Thanks for the response but … my config file is set up the way the wiki (your link) specifies – correct tags etc.
All the correctly named .wav files are present in the same directory as the config file. All the wav files play correctly in Windows media player. The driver bogey is tagged direct-drive

As far as I can tell, the setup is correct for TS2009. Yet, it doesn’t work (it is possible that some sound is playing but at a very, very low volume - so low that I’m not sure I’m hearing anything). I have several engines that work fine (Climax, Shay, C-41), but many of prowler901’s engines don’t make any chuffing sounds under steam – including the c-16, K-27 and several others. All seem to have the sound files set up correctly per the wiki.

I’m out of ideas.

you might get more help if you post this in content creation support - many off the guy who can answer this question do not read the other areas of the fourms

thanks for the suggestion

thanks for the suggestion.

Dumb question, where is the "contents creation support" forum to be found?
