Help Moving Trainz

butter

NorthWest Ohio Trainz2010
I have all of my trainz 06 files before me, I would like to move them to a USB Card It is 16GB, will I just need to highlight all my files copy them to the usb and go? Or is this going to be way more complicated? I assume it will.

Hiya,
If you mean you are sure you know exact files to save then yes it's that simple

I use a reg edit i found years ago, it adds copy to and move to onto the right mouse click options (best way i can describe it), it works fine in xp and vista in all flavours (eg: x86 and x64) Guess i can add a link if needed

Simply put usb in and wait for it to be found, then either drag n drop the highlighted files etc to that usb device or use copy to or move to etc if you have it installed

If i'm reading the post wrong and you're wanting to know which exact files you need to copy across then i dunno for sure

I also use another eg script that adds open with, this and the copy/move to i add asap i've done a fresh os install as they make life a lot easier

Hope my waffle makes sense lol

Have Fun

Tony

ps: with me always using the copy to move to reg script i assume (bad i know) that the drag n drop option still leaves the orig files in place (as i say i've used the script for so many years i cannot rem using any other option)

Hiya,
From what i've read (quickly scanned really) it can be possible to run apps and maybe some type of games off a usb

But, i doubt any modern game would run as you have to take into account registry entries on the fly and the access speed of usb memory and also directx and sound (google and these were main obsticles so it seems)

Only real viable external storage for my money is eSata although i have not tried it

I might have a mess around later but i'm 99% sure trainz won't run off usb (can always be wrong though ! )

Have Fun

Tony

Hi

I have tried running TC3 from both an external hard drive and later from a USB drive. It will work but it runs slower than from an internal hard drive. After trying it I went back to a normal install on an internal hard drive.

Regards

Brian

Yeah, I would advise against running Trainz from a USB source drive, you really should install the game where ever you want to play it. The USB drives are great for backing up content, however.

Hey thanks guys, I decided against it,and just deleted it. It probley would not of worked since before the seletion i had 757 mb free and now i have 13.46 Gb free. so you can see why I wanted to Move it, Im just instaling Classics Im trying to decide what kind of Project I want to start first...Im thinking Ns? Anyways Maybe I'll get this one on the DLS I was working on a Ns Csx Project but, I forgot it was there...Should of moved it...

I know it's a bit late but have you thought about getting another hard drive. you filled what was left with 2006 and will do with classic and be back in the same position.

I did not, I want to focus on the Norfolk Southern Rail Road. My computer does not have room its like a 2002 Everex

I run some of the most modern games off a USB External hard drive just fine:p:cool: I also run Trainz Classics off it as well and still get good frame rates. I keep 06 on my internal just because that is what I mainly work with, and to move it over to my external would take a lot of time and effort, not to mention the discs aren't in to great of shape anymore, not sure why when they have only been used once or twice...They are forming cracks out of nowhere...
Anyways it is safe to say that you can run any application off an external HD.
