Help making a passenger car interior for an existing piece of rolling stock

Hi all,

I've never created any content in my life, but I really enjoy cool passenger car interiors. I think I've downloaded just about every one I could find on the DLS. I'd like to see if I can create my own.

So..to be clear, I don't want to create a brand new piece of rolling stock but, rather, would like to create an interior and "attach" it to an existing piece of rolling stock.

Can I do that? Am I able to edit/add an interior to a rolling stock asset that either came with TRS or I downloaded from the DLS?

If so, any tips or tutorials?

Thanks!

Yes, you can. There is an N3V WiKi page giving some detail here.

The original traincar (loco or carriage/car) may have an existing interior linked in the config.txt as described in the link above. You could exchange that for another interior link or build your own. Make sure you clone the original first. If the original traincar does not have an attachment point in the traincar mesh then you will need to use PEV's AttachmentMaker tool.

Making interiors can be just as complex as building a loco but an interior for a car/carriage would be simpler since you don't need to worry about controls.

Like making any asset of this nature you will need to create it in a 3D editor such as GMax (free), 3DS Max (very expensive) or Blender (free).

It might be useful to try a very, very simple "box like" interior and get that working first. That way you learn and understand all the mechanics of getting it working.

Sorry, the link I provided is mostly about cab controls which may not be helpful. I suggest you find a traincar interior, clone it and then dissect the asset to see what bits do what. That's how I learned in the absence of any tutorials.

wow paul, thanks do much. ok i will do that and give it a try. ive never done any 3d or trainz modeling, but i'm pretty handy with graphics using tools like photoshop, so maybe I can get this to work. ok. maybe I'll post my progress and other questions as I go here on this thread?

thanks again!
