Help importing .GND file into Trainz09

I have spent hours searching the forums for an answer, but no luck. I have followed some tutorials and have finished making .gnd file with HOG from a DEM. However all the tuorials refer to older versions Trainz and I am unable to find the folder they refer to. Does this folder not exist in 09? Do I use content manager to import? I cant find anything on CM to import a .gnd file. Please remember to speak slow since I am new to Trainz.

Would it be to much trouble for anyone to make the files w/ map overlay for me? I am trying to model the DM&IR from Duluth MN thru Proctor MN to Virgina-Mt Iron Minnesota. Just smack me on the back of the head if it is to much to ask.

Hello,

I now this will most likely feel very fast and strange, but maybe it will help some? :)
I'm to tired to think, but figured a answer of some sort was better then no answer. :)

The way to do it in TS2009:

Open Surveyor, create a new map, name it a easy to remember name, save it and exit Trainz.
Open CM2 (Content Manager) and locate your newly created blank map, right click it and choose open for edit in explorer
In the window that pops up, copy your gnd file from the HOG output into that folder, remove the Trainz made file, and rename your HOG gnd file intot he name of the Trainz made gnd file.
Commit the item by closing the explorer window, then pressing the ctrl button + m and then renter Trainz to see if the gnd shows up.

This used to work like that with the prerelease and BETA version of TS2009.
It also worked pre SP1 - but I haven't done it in a while so it might have changed somewhat.

Best of luck

Uh... I don't think that is going to work anymore. The file structures were changed since the beta and pre-sp1, and again after sp1 with the first patch.
I don't use HOG; use Transdem, but wouldn't expect anything different from HOG.
If you're patient, TS2009 "growing pains" will ease, and TransDem will have a new version that will support TS2009.

I don't know what the future holds for HOG, but you should check the website (if there is one).

Linda,

That worked, thanks alot. Now that I have the elevation into TRS09 the dang grid lines are showing up as dips and humps GRRRRRR. Guess I will run thru the tutorial one more time or maybe I will just punch my computer until it goes into sleep mode, then grab a cold beer and go work on my layout in the basement.

Yes it will work. HOG writes out a gnd file that uses the format from UTC days. Surveyor reads the older versions and when you save it writes it out in the new format version. It has worked with every format change since it's inception. TransDem currently works similary but works with newer gnd file version but not TS9 - not yet anyhow but soon Roland says - he has an alpha version in the works. Simply means you can replace an existing gnd file with one made by HOG, TransDem or Mapmaker in a TRS6, TC1/2 ,TC3 or TS9 map folder opened with CM(2) for editing in explorer. Rename it mapfile.gnd and you're good to commit. This is simply setting up an initial gnd file with terrain modeled on it. TD has other features that it can't use with TS9 because it can't read and write the new files formats yet. The other programs never had these capabilities.

I'm slowing down in my old age. I see you already found this out Willy. How did I miss your post? Good luck! 8-)
