Head out of window passenger view? Is it do-able with any stock?

Davie_UCF

Here since 2001, Trainz!!
I noticed this was missing while doing a little drive and enjoying a passenger view. On trains that have slam door stock or preserved railways its not uncommon to see someone poking their head out of a window..

I think most of us must have done it, especially on preserved railways.. Its a great thing seeing the train snaking around corners, seeing the loco up front.

For UK stock we have quite a few different coaches available, some with interiors but it doesn't seem that the door area is modelled so even with freeintcam it doesn't seem possible :(

I thought also you could possibly move the camera to the outside just by the door to get the same affect but it seems you then can't see the exterior of the coach?

Are there any coaches that make this possible?

I'd like to hear thoughts on this :)

It is possible to add outside views by using PEV's Attachment Maker to add a.outsideviewx points to the main coach mesh. (where x=0,1, etc.

These points will then be picked up by the interior camera code when you cycle through the camera positions. Also you can use the cursor keys to rotate the view to look forward, behind, up, down, etc. and can zoom .

Is it as easy as that or is there more I should know before trying? A guide anywhere?

Cheers for the help!

Question, how do I add this to stock that doesn't have an interior, I tried adding it to Andi's pullman brake but it doesn't switch to interior view.

You will have to add an a.cabfront attachment point to your addon mesh. You then add an interior mesh to the config. I suggest using Bendorsey's cab, kuid2:210518:9006:1, which just gives a dark screen telling you to use the [ and ] keys. You can then switch to your outside views. Incidentally you can use a.outsideviewx for views inside the coach as well. How good this will be will depend on the quality of the original but you will also have the "pleasure" of seeing the passengers close-up.

Brilliant! thanks so much for your help, I will work on this later :)

Hellfire, as they say. Now all we need is to animate a "bellower" with arm flailing on a Railtour.

Standing by the door with the droplight down and head out was the favoured position while travelling in Northern and Western Scotland, diesel fumes and sound of the hard working 26/27/37 drifting back.

Happy days!
