Have You seen this

Wo Hoss!

This is exactly the kind of customer Auran can afford to lose. They are not a charity, solely here for those who bought the game years ago & nothing else since. If any here are refusing to upgrade simply as a matter of principle, then thats their loss !
What about the people that just bought 2004, ever think about them as new customers! Just read here about all the people that prefer 04/06, and they buy FCTs and upgrades now don't they!

I have a copy of 2004, £1.00 from the bargain bin. Should that entitle me to unlimited support, i dont.? Anyone that prefers 04/06 & buys FCT's & upgrades wont have a problem will they !

I can't believe that I'm actually siding with the "old guard" here. I guess, if you stick around long enough, strange things can happen. WindWalkr...I don't really care about your business or the wikipedia definition of a customer. I play Trainz because it's my hobby and one of my passions. I don't think that your company really cares about that anymore. You're just trying to avoid going belly up. I don't think alienating your customers with this recent crap is going to save you.

Cheers,
Fred

ya sound upset :( can i help cheer ya up ??

laugh workz wuz here

It's not a matter of principle, some of us CAN'T. I CAN'T at this point, maybe in the future, so that leaves me left out on the side of the road.

Take care,

Yes they will. They won't be able to create and upload 04/06 content to the DLS.

Mike
Well if they have upgraded they wont need too. They can still upload, but in TS2010. Anyone who still wants to use 04/06 can download with 2010 then change the build no in the config to an earlier version, though why anyone would want to ? TS2010 will soon drop in price (all software does), so whats the problem .

That still requires people to get 2010, and if they have a system that cannot support TRS2010, or cannot afford it, such as myself, then what are we left to do? It seems to be forgotten that some people on this forum are not financial sound to upgrade our CP's or get TRS2010. I can think of about a hundred things 40$ would do better for me than TRS2010. I'm not going to wait 4 months for it to drop 10$'s in price, heck, I'm not going to wait for it to drop at all. I'm happy with 04 and 06, I don't need to, or want to upgrade.

Just my humble to 2 cents, please, do not take it in any mean or rude way.

Take care,

Non taken. The thing is, there are other site's people can upload content too if they want too, some already do. But for trainz to move on it has to be developed, & all those that haven't bought a thing from Auran since 2004 have not helped financially. That can't go on, unless everyone wants Trainz to be another MSTS & stagnate.
They will not have support,
What happened to Trs04 being the most stable,& best Trainz around ?

What!

...download with 2010 then change the build no in the config to an earlier version...quote]
If this were the case, there would not be any need to classify content by version in the first place! And there sure wouldn't be a need to delete all the content that has been uploaded for all these years.

I believe that the time to kill 06/04/ UTC and the rest has come. Either you upgrade your computer to play actual games in this day and age or you just forget it and move to the next thing. I hear Solitaire works great on old PC's.

P.S. This was a long post ranting on people who claim they don't have money for it. I found it was more psychologically appealing to leave it out.

Good day kind sirs. :)

The point!

Paul, look at how many post state that people have bought 09/10, and went back to a better version that they liked. Yet they did buy the produce now didn't they! So these customers are now to be ostracized even they are contributing. And what about the creators that acually made Trainz what it is, all their work is just to be tossed!

Absolute rubbish. If they have bought TS2009/TS2010 then they have a supported version and can carry on downloading as before (does nobody read what Auran posts?). It's ridiculous to suggest that come September 2010 that all old content will be deleted - that's not what was said at all so where did that idea come from? The fact that Auran reserve the right to remove content from the DLS is also not new. Everybody who uploads to the DLS has to agree to the conditions of use which include this provision.

Paul

Paul, you and I have some minor disagreements in the past but this is something that I don't disagree with. Without repeating what you've already said, it merely points out that as of september, 04/06 UPLOADS will no longer be accepted. Which is not that big of a deal. For those (including myself) that continue to make 04/06 content, it has already been said that there are sites already in place that would be willing to host this content.

You make it sound like it's Auran's problem that you don't have the financial means to upgrade either your hard and or software. If you make the decision you use your hard earned money elsewhere: good for you! But others would like to move on and are willing to cough up the dough. Life is all about making choices.

"Q: Will the Download Station continue to host content for Trainz editions beyond their end-of-support date?
A: We will not immediately remove older content from the Download Station, as newer editions of Trainz can still use this content.
Q: Will I be able to upload old-format content to the Download Station?
A: New uploads to the Download Station must be in a format no older than our oldest supported product. Attempts to upload content with a trainz-build number lower than our oldest supported product will be rejected. This ensures that legacy formats are cleanly phased out over time."

Key words here are- "not immediately" & "are cleanly phased out over time". To my best knowlege, in english that means "later" & "terminated"! Now Paul, where did you feel it was not said?

It's not.....end of discussion.

IKB.

I agree! I had more crashes in TRS2004 than I let anyone know. The program would randomly knock to the desktop no matter what I did. With each version I upgraded to, I saw better and better performance with TS2009 and TS2010 being the most stable.

Anyway, I think it's time we move on. The DLS is like a giant refridgerator. There are loads of small dishses of moldy bits here and there, and it's time to clean up.

Think of it this way. The servers that hold the DLS, whether they are in-house in Auran's office, or co-located somewhere else, have an infinite amount of space, and the need to constantly add disk space must be getting very expensive. In addition the performance issues that we've been experiencing with the DLS, I think are caused by the burden on the database needing to catalogue the huge number of items. Having said that, it's time to cull the chaff from the wheat.

Let's move on, upgrade the content to the better standards that we have come to expect, and get over the fact that the old stuff is going away.

If your system is capable of running TRS2004 then it will run TS2010 with better frame rates running the same content.

There were a number of 20% off vouchers looking for a home on the forum for TS2010 during the month of Feb.

TS2009 is floating around still at $30 or less on Amazon, not much more on Auran store, it was going for $15 on amazon.co.uk.

Cheerio John
