Hardware Problem In TRS2006-Stuttering

Hi, I used to have a Gigabyte HD 3870.

TRS2006 ran fine with it, without any noticable effects on performance.

I recently upgraded to a PowerColor HD 5770, and now things are going wrong.

When i run the game, there is a stuttering-lag kind of effect.

If you look at the circles connecting roads in Surveyor, they will rotate as usual, then freeze, as if the computer is thinking or refreshing something, then it will keep spinning and keep stopping.

In game, this has the effect of if you use the arrow keys to keep spinning around a train, it won't keep doing it, it will stop, then spin, stop, then spin, almost like some cache is low and it needs to replenish it or something.

When you move a train, it starts moving, then it will freeze, and stutter along the track like a frame by frame thing.

I'm sorry if this is hard to explain.

I'd really like to find out why it is doing this, as i am now seriously considering downgrading to a 3870.

I have installed the latest drivers for the video card.

My specs are:

OS: Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3
RAM: 4Gb
CPU: Phenom 9850 Quad-Core 2.5GHz
GPU: PowerColor Radeon HD 5770
VER: TRS2006 2.6 Build 3335

Did you try it before you updated the drivers? Sometimes newer drivers can cause more problems than they fix.

Have you tried changing frpm OpenGL to DirectX or vice versa. I don't know Radeon cards, are you certain that was actually an upgrade?

Just tested it.

The old driver still has this stuttering, although the duration between stop and start is a lot less, but you notice it when you move trains.

Switching between Directx and OpenGL has had not effect, nor has altering the Resource Cache size option.

Could this be a Vertical Sync or Screen Refresh problem?

Here's a bit of a stupid question...

do you have a wireless internet connection (or broadband always running)?

I only ask because I've been having the exact same problem you describe & I've been tearing my hair out with it. Out of desparation, I turned my wireless off to try & reduce my CPU usage & sure enough it works like a dream.

May be something to try.

Sometimes Joram24 high poly loco's make my PC stutter like Elmer Fudd...The SD35 framerates are fine, but when the SD45's pass my camera the framerates drop to a 4fps slideshow. :'(

I have this problem too though since I started playing with the sliders it seems to have decreased. It mainly affects high detail areas with lots of Objects so I reduced the Draw Distance to the absolute minimum and it seems to have made a noticeable improvement.
