I am tring to figure out the miles... For example. i'm tring to use the grid on the new map. without the paint for land. and I need to know for one board how many miles is that. two boards will be what to miles? and extra. or try it this way. 2 engines with 12 cars will = in a half mile or a mile? please help.  :( thank you. please add me to ichat. winston

Each board is 750 Meters square. That's 0.75 KM. To convert KM to Miles, multiply the KM by 0.6213.

You can also use a ruler after you set the units to US values. The ruler will show in feet.

EDIT: If you have a track plan in miles, you can convert it to KM by multiplying miles by 1.609 to get KM.

And in 2010, each grid square can be cut down to 5 meters. Each board is 75 ten-meter squares on a side.

grid size

If you check either with the ruler under 'tools' or by counting, you will find that each basic square on the 'baseboard' is 10m by 10m and there are 72 (not 75) in each direction. So the base is 720m by 720m.

This is probably not all that important unless you are trying to reproduce a real railway system.

Each base board is a tad less than 1/2 a mile so I just use two base boards as a mile. This gives some mild compression but it works for me and keeps things simple.

Remember never confuse metric and imperial measurements lest your board gets flipped.
