Great Buildings

6Really nice REALISTIC buildings from "FMA" . So much better than the mono colored structures that only represent buildings. Looks like a real rail operation.

[cough! cough!] LOL! LOL! I don't understand that?

I really like those structures made by FMA. I do not like structures that are colored with bright colors, often with excess reflectivity. They were needed in the past to comply with limitations of the program and the restrictions of the hardware of that time. We really have a New Era. Higher quality assets are needed to match the new capabilities of TANE.

I am not at all saying that people who use, or create, plain colored assets are wrong or otherwise impaired. There will always be a need for them. I was only celebrating the excellent work with the FMA series of assets which add value to TANE.

The Hopper is Dave's I'm presuming

I don't suppose you have any KUIDs or names for these buildings other than just "FMA"?

In the Content Manager just search for FMA in the "Download Station". 911 total items. Look at the Industrial section for buildings.

As far as the Hopper goes I always choose those that are detailed as noted by their date and file size. I only use those that are somewhat dirty or in "bad condition". Shiny new switchers just do not seem right as do similar hoppers and gondolas. I Like a dirty railroad.

I mean no disrespect to the author of the hopper, but it is detailed as about as much as a vintage 2002 model could be. I just found irony in the original post about finding something that you think looks "real" and isn't mono color how we must move forward with TANE etc, and yet using models that do not look real and are mono color. The image certainly doesn't fit your comments.

NO! That hopper ISN'T mine. You can read the writing on the sides of my hoppers and, in fact, all my rolling stock. The building looks good to me, I was just agreeing with Justin and somewhat amused by it all. I mean no disrespect to anyone.

I'm with you on the paint and dirt. Thanks for the heads up on FMA.

I found that using photorealistic and non-photorealistic are ok, just not in the same route.
On a side note... You know what ruins that nice building in the first picture?

Just sayin. :)

Industrial areas may often be the last to receive updated services. While they may benefit, the interruption of service may be too detrimental versus any benefits the new service might offer. A 3phase 2400v underground service stepped down to 220v and 440v would be appropriate. In addition to the new service the power factor will be tuned so that the customers may have full value from the service they pay for. Due to the creosote content, the original pole service will be sent to a proper disposal facility.

To complete the fiction I shall have to locate some nice transformers. Just like older rusty engines and cars, the older poles have character. That may, in some cases, be more important than detailed accuracy which could make the scene appear to sterile.

Upgraded the electrical service to underground from the on-site sub-station. Added dark asphalt new sections of pavement to illustrate excavation activity (not visible in photo).

The cost was borne by Tony Hilliman by way of a tax-exempt grant.
