Grass Splines Question

Why is it on some routes that I use this grass spline you can see the grass when you zoom way out as you can see here:



And some routes when you zoom out at the same distance the grass disappears as one can see here:



But when ya zoom into almost the tracks, the grass reappears as one can see here:




Any idea on what causes this??

I dont have TS12 but I seem to recall reading posts about the game limiting the amount of detail in the scene to reduce load on the graphics processor. It may be that in some scenes there is lots of detail which will force the computer to reduce the amount of detail drawn whereas in others the load on the computer when zooming out is not too much so it will draw all of the objects in the scene.

Perhaps a TS12 will user will correct this if it is not the case ?

Are they the same grass type? I know there are a few JVC ones that disappear and other JVC ones that dont.

Yeah....Thats what the issue was....So I just found the one that was the same as the other....I didnt know that.......Thanx
 
Some grass splines can be prevented from popping up/disappearing at short range, by deleting the unit-mesh line in the config.txt file.

Some people have reported a big hit on performance when doing this, although I've never really noticed a problem with the few grass splines where I've made this change.
 
Have a look at the DLS grass splines by tram__ (TWO underscores!). They have 5 (or is it 7?) LODs and draw all the way to the horizon with so close to no performance hit it doesn't matter. He has a zillion types some of which are better in Native Mode and some are better in Comp mode so it might take a bit of wading through to find what works best for you. The result is worth the effort though...
