Grade Signal

When one of the Smart Signals has that feature turned on, then that signal will not be lit (i.e. it will be "dark") until a train is approaching, at which point the signal will light up with the aspect to be displayed for the train.

Regards,

Zachary.

Oh neat!! Thanks I'll try it out then.

Most - if not all? - JR signals can be set up as approach-lit in TS10 and up. Not sure about TS09, but would be worth a try. There's nothing to lose...

Might be worth pointing out that 'Approach Lit' and 'Grade Signal' are nothing to do with each other. Approach lit is an energy-saving thing - no point having a thousand red lights on constantly if there's no train anywhere near, so the sig only lights up when an approaching train gets within a specified distance.

Grade Sigs have 'G' on the post and are 'Permissive'. They are used on the uphill side of grades and trains over a specified tonnage do not stop at reds. Why? Because trains over that tonnage will stall if they stop on the grade.

A 'Grade Signal' can also be 'Approach Lit' but not necessarily...

Andy :)
