I just realised that for that post I had clicked on Edge before searching, just a dumb mistake. I'm back to Chrome now and the good old gibberish links.

Interesting. Would that coach in front of the caboose with the diamond logo also be West Chester? I am wondering what line it might be.

I was wondering about that too. A diamond is Lehigh Valley I think. There's a nice collection of old equipment on that branch. Their old Alco RS2 or RS3 is awesome.

The line ends here and appears to always have. The building across the street is quite old, perhaps early 1920s. The line was once a PRR branch and bits and pieces of catenary poles are scattered here and there including the one as seen here at the end. Imagine the line being served by a single MP54, or maybe a power car and trailer during rush hour.

Following the line in the opposite direction brings us to a new SEPTA station opening on the ROW. There was a lot of other branches in the area as well if you continue along past the station. It gets pretty confusing too.

The G&W locomotives are actually the St. Lawrence and Atlantic. The StLA was purchased by them a few years ago. Prior to that, the line was originally the Grand Trunk. This is not the Grand Trunk Western, but was related. The company, like the Central Vermont and the GTW was a subsidiary of the Canadian National Railway.

The PAR, CSX and MEC locos are sitting at Rigby Yard in South Portland, ME. This was the end of the Boston and Maine Railroad and the beginning of the Maine Central Railroad prior to Guilford mucking up the works they merged the two together. The two companies were always close allies and actually ran joint operations right through from the beginning. At one point, they shared motive power and had similar paint schemes. Unfortunately, Guilford ruined the profitable MEC and tanked the B&M and D&H by sucking the profits out and letting the locos and infrastructure rot. Today, what's left of the B&M and MEC are slated to become part of CSX if the merger is approved. CSX has big plans to improve the infrastructure which Pan Am Railways allowed to sink down.

The PAR operations in Mattawaumkeag are sketchy today. I'm not sure if the paper mills are operating, or have been shutdown. This was one of the industries that was badly neglected in the past decade and allowed to go away as Canadian paper and lumber out bid the mills in Maine.

Springfield station was in a lot better shape than it is today. Sadly, over the years much has been neglected and today it looks like a bomb hit it. I've taken the train through there on Massachusetts Bay Railroad Enthusiasts fan trips and even 30 years ago it was a lot nicer. East of the station was once a big yard in what is called East Springfield and back then that was still in existence then. Today, there's nothing there except for a big empty parking lot where there was once a substantial amount of tracks. There was also a big yard down on the Conn-River (Connecticut River) line, but that too has been reduced to a few sidings. Today, any freight from New Haven or from the north now has to do a back up move. The freights come up off the lower Conn-River line via the connectors and pull in front of the station. Once stopped, they then back up into West Springfield yard. You can see this operation about 10:00 am or so on the VR Cam livestream. The usual companies are Connecticut Southern, now a G&W subsidiary, and PAR. PAR freights are rare though as usual since they'll send most of their freight to Deerfield which is farther north.

Yeah, basically any railroad thing like, property, track, trackage, revenue, in Connecticut has shrunk into nonexistence, all except the North East Corridor of course. You see dead rail lines all over the state. I guess the final nail in the coffin was the New Haven RR, but i'm no expert in RR history like you are.
