Good PC/Bad PC?

The computer I mentioned in post #11 will, as I said, not upgrade to Win 11. Instead, I wiped the HD and installed Linux Mint. It is now my go-to computer for daily web work, writing, and some gaming. I sure wish N3V would port ANY Trainz version of Linux. Trying to get them to run properly using WINE is a nightmare.

Interesting article, Joel. I do see a push toward a single Linux OS, though. But, like he says, Linux users love to download various distros just to see what they can--or can't--do. I have three laptops with three different distros for just that reason. I use them to test any little programs I come up with so make my life easier. I am currently porting my VB.NET version of a movie and vinyl database to Linux, readying myself for a total abandonment of Windows.

I'm quite frustrated by the nonsense that MS does with Windows. I'm using Win11, but Win7 on an older computer is my favorite version. It's offline, so no attacks from outside.

I've been using non-Microsoft apps for years.

I'm ready to start switching over to Linux.

I tried Linux. While it was nice and worked well for most things, for gaming it was a bit too challenging trying to get different games working. It seems for each game you try to install on your system, you have a completely different sets of technical loops (programs) to jump through to get it all working. So I ended up finding a way to get Windows 11 up and running on my system leaving Linux behind. My system was originally a Windows 7 computer. I definitely miss it's simplicity.
