Good laptop to have good performance for Trainz 2022

I'm about to change my laptops, but I have to know what type of windows laptop could be good to get that will have great performance on Trainz 2022?

Laptops are designed for long battery life, which means performance is not a priority. You can put in a cut down GPU such an an RTX 4070 but feeding it with power means using cooling pads, noisy fans etc. You'll also hit thermal throttling and I'd normally recommend 32 gigs of memory but that adds extra heat and on Dell Alienware which is one of the better manufacturers you get the choice 4060 and 32 gigs of memory or 4070 and 16 gigs of memory. On the video card I'd go for 16 gigs on the video card these days, I don't think that is available on the cut down laptops GPUs.

Realistically buy a laptop that meets your other needs and a desktop for TS22. It'll be cheaper and you'll get better performance. By the way you can run trainz on even integrated graphics provided you choose the right content. Middleton for laptops for example.

Which is why when I run Trainz Plus on a laptop it is always connected to the power supply. My main Trainz testing laptop has an RTX GPU and enough oomph to run Trainz with reasonably high settings (but not full on max). It performs about the same as on my desktop with the same performance settings. My second laptop has a GTX GPU but I find that there is little performance difference to the RTX laptop.

MSI make some good gaming laptops which come with an RTX4060 8gb starting from $1399 AUD. That GPU would be the minimum for good performance in Trainz. 512gb storage is a little small for Trainz, so I would recommend a fast external drive of 1 or 2tb or talk to the store about upgrading to a larger internal drive. AMD Ryzen processors are extremely good and give better performance per dollar than Intel

That is just the offerings from one store with shops in Vic, NSW and SA. There are likely stores with better pricing and different brands in whichever state you live in. For gaming laptops, I would steer clear of stores like Harvey Norman, Good Guys and Officeworks etc as unless the PC is on sale the price will be higher as they work to a margin and make extra dollars by sales of addon products. Other good stores I regularly buy from are Scorptec and PC Case Gear, UMart is okay but pricing and service isn't as good as it used to be.

I had an MSI GE-75 Raider laptop. The screen hinge got too tight and broke the plastic screen frame it was attached to. Mine apparently wasn't the only one to do that.

I have an excellent Alienware M18. This is a gaming laptop with adequate cooling and plenty of internal space. I have no complaints about the machine. It handles Trainz as good as if not better than my desktop.
