Good and Bad news

As the Jet engine is a bit long in the tooth the good news is that Epic has announced that its Unreal Development Kit (UDK) is available for download for absolutely nothing. This kit was used to create games such as Gears of War and BioShock.

The bad news is that if the product makes over $5K, then a quarter of the profits go to Epic. This is in addition to the fact that a serious rewrite would be necessary before UDK could power Trainz.

Still, maybe an option?

The Jet engine has been updated a lot, the only game that uses it is Trainz so we have a customized engine.

Jet is on the dated side though. It probably just needs a facelift at some point, that is all. No need to go to a new engine, especially an FPS engine.
