Going back to TRS2006

Hi, I've been thinking of going back to TRS2006 for a few reasons. One reason is my Trainz 12 did a database update, and about 1/4 or something of my content doesn't work. I can fix this, but this is the 4th or so time this has happened. Another reason is I've had trouble-free experience with TRS2006 since I got it in 2009, and it's been on about 3-4 different computers I've owned. Should I go back? Thanks.

I would personally recommend TS2010 as a version to go back to.

TS12 does not run with anything near respectable framerates on my computer, even on a blank baseboard. But my computer can run ECML and Avery - Drexel in TS2010 with no trouble. This is with a few trainzoptions.txt tweaks as well.

Plus, you can merge routes without the game crashing! :D

IMHO, TRS2006 is too far to jump back to. You miss out on much more content than you would if you only dropped back to TS2010.

Kieran.

That is a pretty good option that I didn't think about. In my mind, TRS2010 is the best of both worlds, old content that works, great new content, and the modern graphics, thanks.

Evening everyone,

Four years ago, I jumped and bought the Settle & Carlisle stand-alone pack for Trainz.
At the time, I found it terribly laggy, so I uninstalled it, and went on with Railworks.
I saw a post over at UKTrainSim today, where I could buy a bundle (including Trainz 2012) for £2.97. I duly purchased, and hoped...

Sadly to say, even on my new system (where Train Simulator 2014 runs happily with all graphics settings on max), Trainz 2012 is almost unplayable.
I went into the options, and put the video settings at their lowest positions, and disabled 3D sounds... all to no real gain.
Alas, this one followed the S&C down the uninstall path, which is a shame as the sounds I heard were superb...

Hopefully the new version due out at the end of next year will redress the balance.

Very Best Wishes,
Bob.

Bob,

Welcome to the forums and to Trainz. I sorry to hear (read) this. What kind of issues, and firstly what are your machine specs? With some system tweaking and optimization, we can help you get your TS12 working. If you've been following the threads, you can also N3V is working on a new game engine which will be released at some point so don't give up hope yet.

John

Perhaps if you post your computer specs, someone might advise you on how to adjust the proper settings.

I find that TS12 actually runs much better on my machines than "Railworks20-whatever it is this week".

Hello John, and good evening :),
I'm running Windows 7, 64-bit, I have 4gb of ram, a GTX550ti graphics card, and an AMD Athon Core4 processor.

I have seen the announcement of the new version planned for release at the end of next year, and am hoping that it might be more usable.
As I've said, TS2014 (RailSimulator.com) runs fine on the maximum settings, whereas I couldn't get Trainz 2012 to get anywhere useable. The Class 47 sounded nice though!...

Very Best Wishes,
Bob.

Sorry, I forgot to add...

Further to John's post, my issues seem to be graphics related, with massive lag. I tried both DirectX and GL modes, with no noticeable difference between them...

Even I would not recommend going back to TRS2006, unless it is because of a low end PC specs, and choppy framerates ... yes, TRS2006 is simpler in surveyor, and has less problems, and is quite stable, and the CMP works flawlesly.
