Gmax and other trainz desine programes

Where could you get a Desing program just for trainz 2009, I herd Gmax alot but I can never find it:'(. Is their a possible place to get it?
And maybe paint shed?

Unfortunatly trainz paint shed is history, Auran have decided that it would not be viable to continue with paintshed, most now use either paint shop, gimp or Irfanview, to reskin, design or build new locomotives...

All the above is available for free from filehippo.com... this site also contains virus programmes including AVG, Avast and Malware Bytes, which are also free, this site is virus free, and is continually checked.

Gmax is a rudimentary 3d Modeling program, which is available through the Turbosquid website; use your favorite search engine with the search paramenters "turbosquid", "GMAX", and "download". While Gmax is still available, and while there are people still creating content, be aware that Gmax is an orphan program, no longer being maintained. The good news is that there will not be further versions in which features can be broken; the bad news is that there may come some point where the software no longer works under some future versions of Windows, and there is no team adding WIBNI (wouldn't it be nice if...) features.

I spent about a week with Gmax before discovering that it was orphan, and decided that if I was going to spend the time learning a 3D modeling package, I was going to spend the time on a program still being actively supported, and I opted to learn Blender, instead, not that Blender doesn't have it's own set of problems, one of which being that Auran does not support it officially. Blender can be obtained through the Blender website, <www.blender.org>.

Blender uses the Auran XML to *.im exporter so it's a good deal better supported than Max 10 which doesn't have an exporter at all. In fact AFAIK Blender is the only current free program that can export *.im files.

There is a python script for Blender that does an export into a specific XML format. This file is the same format as the Auran XML importer uses. What this gives you is isolation which means a badly written exporter cannot corrupt Trainz. People with computer database backgrounds get quite excited about this method of XML transfer of data from one system to another because if you enhance (change) one system the rest still keeps on working because of the isolation.

The Auran XML importer is mentioned as beta by Auran but in the same way that Google said gmail was beta for a year or two.

I think the Auran XML importer is aligned with TS2009 and it is currently the only Auran supported way of importing from the free software. Support for the XML importer is available in Trainzdev.

Thank You all, I've been able to get Gmax Photo shop and now i can creat my own trains:clap:!! I will be sure to come back to this tread alot!:D
 
All the links for gMaz, Blender, gMax tutorials, Blender Tutorials can all be found in one consolidated place as all the guys above know. Why they won'y the you that is something I have yet to work out!

Go to the Trainz Resources Directory and use the menu on the left.

Look under Software for software. There you will find descriptions and download links to all related software including Irfanview, Gimp and many more.
Look under Tutorials for tutorials. There you will find links to hundreds of tutorials that start you from the begining, not the middle.
Look under gMax goodies for gMax Goodies of other great stuff.
Look under any other option for several thousand Trainz related web sites.

It's that simple.

Guys you really know how to make me feel as though an entire year's work has been for nothing!

The directory is not a commercial oporation. It is a community resource for all trainz users. Like JW's beloved Wiki, it's there to help all Trainz users. Your help in directing people to the TRD or the Wiki will also help.

I'd really appreciate your assistance. Right now I'm thinking removing the name Trainz from the Directory because of the support it doesn't get from members of this forum. This thread has driven me one step closer.

GMax - don't even think about it if you don't already know how to use 3DS Max. It's old, flakey, unsupported and not even easy to use - If you are going to learn a 3D program start with Blender.

How are the Blender components / sources coming along? May I restate that I'm only one contributor to the wikibook Trainz and didn't set it up so saying its mine doesn't reflect the many valuable contributions that others have made. Personally I think it could have a better layout and be much better organised but currently it does contain a reasonable amount of current information that can be corrected by anyone.

As soon as I finished downloading Gmax it look alot like a program I use to have Anim8tor(animator) but alot harder!:n: Ya, I will try Blender

Be aware, Tommy, that you will probably find that Blender is not any easier than Gmax. In fact, because it has a broader range of features, it may well be more difficult. However, the broader range of features, and the fact that it's currently actively supported supported, even if by the user community, are two of the bigger advantages to using the package.

I will be fair here, and say that there may still be user support for Gmax, as there is for Blender. I've never searched very thoroughly, but when I have looked I haven't found the number of hits for Gmax that I do for Blender.

There are far more tutorials for Trainz in Max. but less starting tutorials. Blender on the other hand has hundreds of tutorials startig fom how to insall the program to the most complex things you don't need.

All the best of both are listed in the Trainz Resources Directory under Tutorials so there's no need for you to google anything or wate your time looking elsewhere. The thing is is to know where to start.

For gMaz, probably the first of the offucial tutorials - making a mase. it includes things like keyboard shortcuts, mouse movements, screen divisions etc. To my knowledge, none of the Trainz tutorials have this, but this one goes close: Jytte's Trainz

Blender is richer but if you start by limiting yourself to the basics needed for Trainz its not too bad. The two sets of tutorials are the ones in wikibooks trainz and Paul Hobbs ones:
