Wow! Very nice!

I was literally just looking at the built-in one thinking: "I wounder how it would look if someone was to make a newer one..."

An old World Trade Center gmax model of mine. :-)

A few years ago, I was inspired to build a World Trade Center model for Trainz, after watching a documentary on the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Magicland has a model of the World Trade Center on the Download Station. However, his model is of the two main towers and the central plaza only. While many people think "the two towers" when they hear "World Trade Center", the whole World Trade Center was actually comprised of several buildings around the two towers. There were 7 buildings total in the World Trade Center complex.

My model is a model of the complete complex, based off of these things: 1. The ground plan for the complex that was included with Magicland's model. This one did not show the entire W.T.C. complex, however, as far as I remember (it has been quite a while); 2. An other plan that I got off of the Internet (it might have been from Wikipedia); 3. Any measurements, etc., that I could find for the individual buildings in the complex, namely from Wikipedia, and 4. A super-extremely detailed, very-high-polygon-count, professional, prototypical freeware model of the complete World Trade Center complex that I got off of TurboSquid for free. The main texture for the towers was drawn by me in Microsoft Paint (from what I remember), based off of the texture that Magicland used for his model (I did not actually use his texture, I just reproduced it). When drawing the texture I went down to even the little lights that you could see on inside the tower lobby in his texture, though I would probably delete them from the texture now, if I ever get back in to this model ;).

So far, only the textures for the two towers have been made and applied to the model. The towers are the only parts of the model that are very close to being completed (there would be only one little change that I would need to make, and then they would be "complete" for a while :p). The other buildings exist only as base shapes, shaped in the basic shape of the real buildings. The textures and the fine details still have not been done. ;-)

While the real complex what somewhat built on a slope (and the great free model that I got off of TurboSquid and used as a reference for my model), this model was for Trainz, so thus all of the buildings are on the same flat surface (it might be hard to shape and blend a sloped model in to the Trainz terrain).

The model has not been modified in a long time (the timestamp on the .gmax file is September 22, 2008 at 6:23 p.m. E.S.T.). :p The reason that I am posting this here is because I currently have no interest in starting to work on the model again. I just thought that I would share some screenshots of it with the rest of the community. ;-)

Below are five screenshots of the model in gmax. The below screenshots are full-resolution 1200 x 800 pixel screenshots, so the images below are thumbnails that link to the images at Imageshack, instead of showing them at full resolution here. However, the images are in PNG format, so the file size for each one is very low, with the total file size being less than 600 kilobytes (from what I remember when they were being uploaded to Imageshack). ;-)

Click on a thumbnail to see the full version at Imageshack.

More screenshots of the model in gmax are available upon request.

Images uploaded via ImageShack.us.

Enjoy, everyone. :)

Regards.
