GMax and 3DSMax (And any other modeling program) screenies/renders

that would be a great bridge for fictional layouts weather it has roads on it or rails.

EDIT: why did this double post??? feel free to delete this one mods

Tasty EMD...

I was commenting on Hack's pic ;)

EMD 'bulldog' style locomotive. Well, thats what I've always heard them called, the Aussie ones atleast.

Awesome loco, I cant wait. Do you think you could do it up in some C&O or B&O just as a request? Or is that unprtotypical. L&N grey would be cool too but once again I dont know if that goes with this type.

Thanks in advance for any consideration. :)

As a great man once said, "And now for something completely different!"

Over the last few months I've been buried in a new cgi project - which has absolutely nothing to do with trains! The items below are just a few of the pieces of furniture I'm constructing for a "Dungeons & Dragons" type venture which has certainly captured my interest.

I really enjoy working with textures and this project has given me an opportunity to indulge my every whim - from flaking metal to cobwebs!

More soon.

OK, Mines not quite a render, but it's close:

I've got the animated wheels back from Ben Neal, maybe I'll think of finishing her if anyone is interested. ;)

*Raises Hand* Definitely Interested Here!:D

Say, Is that Engine not supposed to have a Cab? :hehe:

I was bored one day, and I drew this.....

Then I made it in Autodesk Inventor.....

It is exactly 2,844 feet long.

Good to see someone else working in Inventor...

Have you worked out how to convert it yet?

In a word: No.

It's a hunslet 2ft gauge 0-4-0st quarry engine (of the 'alice' class), and when built it had no cab. They had cabs added later on. Wait a mo...
EDIT:

This one works at the Bala Lake Railway, and was rebuilt to original condition (wooden blocks for buffers and no cab)

Blender again-

Before anyone comments, I know the grille arrangement isn't symmetrical but I'm still only working on a quarter model using the mirror modifier. It'll be easy enough to delete unwanted grilles and rework the other end in due course, once I'm happy that no more details common to both sides/ends need to be added.

How do you get the reflection of the model? I've seen it before in other screen shots but never knew how to do it. I'm using G-max.
Nice looking loco.

Hi bnsf50

Thanks for the compliment. The reflection is just a large plane with a 100% reflective material applied to it. Since Gmax doesn't do rendering as such I don't think there's a way to get the same effect without exporting into another program.

The ability of Blender to do renders, and bake textures and normal maps etc is one of the main reasons why I moved from Gmax. Less than two months ago I could barely model a cube in Blender and, like many others, found the Gmax inteface far more conventional and easy to get the hang of. However, now I'm used to the interface and some of the main keyboard shortcuts, I find I can model a lot more quickly in Blender than I could using Gmax. Paul Hobbs' superb tutorials and the comprehensive Wiki manual on the Blender.org site have made it a lot easier than it used to be to get to grips with Blender's very different way of doing things.

I don't want to open up a Gmax v Blender debate because I've used Gmax for many years and been more than happy with it. However, personally speaking I'm now finding that the time spent learning Blender is time well spent.

Cheers
