GMax and 3DSMax (And any other modeling program) screenies/renders

Thanks to Mike (and current life problems) I really don't feel like posting my work if i'm going to get accused of stealing :( If I had used a payware model like in that link I would've said that it was a modified version or I would've mentioned something about it being payware anyway :( And like somebody already mentioned, Thgey are the same car so of course there are going to be some similaraties betwwenm the models :(

Don't worry about Mike. He's a kid and has issues about superiority! Most kids do.

I think your work looks great. However, every time you stick your head above the parapet you have to be prepared for people to take pot-shots at you. The trick is to keep at it. That way the pot-shots won't hurt quite so much.

Let's not take it out on Mike. I think a number of us were probably very surprised at the huge improvement in modelling technique exhibited by RJL. Those cars are clearly in a different league from earlier models exhibited. If you have created those meshes from scratch RJL then I am seriously impressed and would love to know how you managed to create the lovely compound curves. It's something I have never really mastered.

Cheers

Thanks, but like i said on the other page, I did have help from a friend at school who has been doing this for years :)

If you're serious ... 3D Creative eZine ( http://www.3dcreativemag.com/ - Zoo Publishing ) are currently doing a tutorial series on this very subject , it started in the Jan issue .. in fact the subject is the Veron model pictured above .. if that does not suit you I can suggest several free tutorials that cover the jubject of organic / inorganic modeling.

I think that going from this;

to this;

In 3 days may be why some people, myself included I have to say, were/are somewhat suspicious.

Mike.

I think we need to move on from this. But before we do I have read all the comments being said and I suggest that some people re-read the thread, take a deep breath and think about the important things in life.

*LS I hope you don't mind me talking to eldavo about curves.

Hey Eldavo and readers, the way I did the curves on my mini was difficult, it meant re-build after re-build after re-build until you get a good shape; the right shape. I think I've just about sorted it. I hope...

The texture/Reflection usually hides the low poly curves which works well if it's just one colour however if you add a stripe like I have it shows all of them off and makes it look not as good. Although if you look above the the front wheel you can see some dodgy polyes there...

My mini:

I made curves using the line tool or box object and then using the 'extrude' tool I made it into an object. Then add polys, then moved them into place and then maybe, if needed add more polygones. This video on you tube should help!

Right everyones taken there pot-shots and I have explained so now can we move on :eek: never thought this would go on for so long :eek:

The system appears to be similar to Blender. Though 3D's technique is nice because you can convert them to NURBS.

Cheerio,

Thanks Mike for the link, unfortunately if you enlarge it you can't follow the "brush strokes" ;) I'm considering doing some automobiles, any GOOD tutorials out there for doing autos that can "easily" be followed? Doing the compound curves are going to be "fun".

I've got a question: How did you put those diagrams into the display? It looks like it made it a whole lot more accurate.

2 places I can think of to get you started.

http://www.the-blueprints.com/ EXCELLENT resource for different items / images. Just do a search of what your looking for, only issue is the items I want don't have the dimensions.

http://www.fsalpha.com/home.shtml offers a video on how to make a "calibration box" or "background box". Can get sort of involved, so if your not all that familiar with Gmax then it's worth the $6 or so. Look for the article dated 12/30/2004

Hi All
