GMax and 3DSMax (And any other modeling program) screenies/renders

One slightly strange one from me.

Caustics abuse

A little lighthouse scene from me. The light is inside a 'solid glass egg-shaped "lens"' which is inside a glass cage.

I tried enabling caustics to see what happened and I got some itneresting results.

Panels and buttons.

After a good deal of guesstimation and cross checking in manuals I've managed to get the last of the gauges in place. I had to do all the scales in CorelDRAW and export them as TGAs to obtain a suffiently crisp appearance in-game.

The three clock shaped gauges are manometres for trainbrake, compressor and main brake cylinder. The array of gauges to the right of them all have to do with power: line current in KiloVolts, transformed current in Ampéres and finally the six traction engines also in Ampére. The small gauge on the righthand console is the locomotive heating. The console standing alone to the left is the combined speedometer and odometer.

What's left is a variety of switches depending on the locomotive's age and the number of revisions it have undergone. The majority of these will be on the wall to left of the driver and all belongs in the lighting department. But with these in place I can finally start in-game testing.

Coming from you I'd say that's a praise worth noting ;) My modelling and texturing skills are being honed pretty sharp these days, but I am still lacking a lot in the scripting department. Hence this cab will reach its completion as far as mesh and textures go in a foreseable future, but from there to making all the little bits and bobs work according to plan; I will stick to the good old Auran term "soon(tm)"

Speaking as an autodidact 3D "artist":
If you still are on the brink of entering into GMax, 3DS Max or any other 3D gizmo take my word for it: "GO!"
If you really want to make something of it the old "No guts. No glory" parole holds true here. Start with a box and take it from there.

Hey, Prowler -

That's an interesting phrase! It sounds similar to our English expression "Dark Horse". I wonder if the two things mean the same?!

(Sorry to go off beam!)

:o

Perch

That's internaval teasing.

Prowler is a Navy AVIATOR (in caps to match the inflated ego that comes with that designation) and as such is entitled to wear brown shoes. Myself I am a surface warfare specialist and as such wear black shoes.

Now I won't delve further into the nickname of the type of plane in which the good Todd occupies the backseat....:p

To get back on track....

Funny effect: the lightbulb which is placed around the omni light used inside the cab casts shadows on itself and there for appears black when rendered. Better crank up the luminescence.

Just some off topic fun http://www.dr.dk/skum/foerstevaelger/faarspillet/ press "start spil" and collect kiloWatt and karma. Press the number corresponding to the relevant sheep to make it jump.

Har, har, har.... :p

As for the cab scripting... I don't get it yet either. Ben does that work for me. He's got the system down to a science I think :)

Todd
