GMax and 3DSMax (And any other modeling program) screenies/renders

My latest render, about 2 hours work:

is that still with blender?

Yes, it is. Pure Blender.

Yes it is. I like the idea of using multiple lights, i like it :D

Thank you. Three-point lighting is the key to making a good render. Also, it's buffer shadowed (as in, no ray tracing) for a nice quick render time! This is what they call a "Studio Setup".

I've got two monitors so the pic got smaller when I uploaded it.

Here's an update:

I'm getting a critique over at the Blender Artist's Forums so I'll keep updating this as I go along.

Cheers,

Spent tonight mapping the textures, and I've done a basic paint job. Next is to work out the shadows, then do a little weathering :)
Then to reskin it into black, AN yellow, and any others that may turn up :)

If anyone has a colour request, just send it to me. Either here, via PM, or email :)

Zec -

The new bogie looks great - very detailed - but it appears to have a couple of problems.

First, there are holes in the mesh (on the underside - which you can see at two places in the reflection).

Second, it seems you have some poly issues with the frames - where they wrap over the axle boxes - leading to the irregular shadow artefacts. This is often the result of overlapping and/or dodgy triangulation.

I'd take a look at these issues before you start texturing as trying to correct them later will be a real chore!

Both those are easy fixes (I noticed them after I rendered it).
The holes are cause by a poly welding to the wrong spot. There is actually a poly behind this that it was meant to weld to. These polys are actually textured, and I believe in the correct order as well :)

As for the irregular shadows, these are meant to be there. The frame that goes down at the axle box (On the end) also curves in towards the wheels. It was a real paint to make, but makes it look a little more realistic.

Thanks for pointing these out though. Oh yes, the model is fully mapped now. I'm now working towards doing the shadows and some weathering :) This should be a good bit of work for the weekend :D

You know best.

Hmmm, right.
